Saucy Mama Review and Giveaway

We do so much grilling in the summertime, but often I run out of ideas for marinades and new flavors.  Sure quite a few sauces can be purchased at the store, but for me there is something thrilling about trying something unique.  Luckily Saucy Mama sent me a wonderful assortment of their sauces, along with a cute little red checkered apron so I can get my “grill” on for summer.   The story behind Saucy Mama is very interesting – you can read the full story on their website, but here is just a little tease:

Saucy Mama Honey Mustard,

Champagne Honey Mustard

Jan and Susan (Mom) Barhyte first publicly shared our mustards in the late 1970s on the table at our Swift & Martin Station Deli in Pendleton, Oregon. These mustards were made from recipes developed by both sides of the family over generations, including a few recipes from Mom’s father. Customers liked the unique and flavorful mustards so much that they began requesting some to take home.

Our mustard sales grew so fast that it became a family business. In 1984, we moved our mustard operation closer to the mustard fields of the Willamette Valley and added new mustards and a variety of delicious condiments. But the sunshine and community of our hometown Pendleton drew us back in 1994. Our family has been making our savory collection of foods there ever since.

It takes a real stickler in the kitchen to make products this consistently tasty. And that’s mom. She won’t rest until every family member declares her latest taste sensation the most delicious sauce, marinade, cocktail onion, olive, or mustard they’ve ever tasted. And even then she’ll try to make it better.

I couldn’t wait to dive into the goods as soon as they arrived. The first thing we tried was the Parmesan Garlic Marinade – we used it on chicken breasts, then grilled to perfection. The whole family enjoyed it, and I even got rave reviews from the kids which is saying a lot {they are teenagers, need I say more?}. The flavor was incredible! It was so tasty, and our chicken came out really tender and juicy.  I feel really bad, as I wanted to take a picture to show you how divine the chicken looked, but it was gone too fast.

The Lime Chipotle we used on was out of this world. It was tangy, but not too much so. “Citrus and spicy are just what your grilled salmon needs. If the fish aren’t food gifts, food gift baskets,Barhyte Specialty Foods reviewswimming, Lime Chipotle will give your roast pork the perfect Tex-Mex taste”. The Sesame Ginger dressing has is a versatile sauce that can be used on a salad {with chicken or another meat – we used chicken}. I think this would be excellent on grilled fish, along with rice. Yum! I haven’t tried the Cracked Peppercorn Marinade yet, but I have a feeling that will be up next. I did sample the Champagne & Honey Mustard on a few pretzel sticks. This makes a great snack. I know exactly what I want to use it on – a honeybaked ham. Or even as a spread on a sandwich made with leftover honey baked ham. Okay – I am seriously hungry now!

If you need some mealtime ideas, you can find some fabulous and easy recipes on the Saucy Mama website, and their blog is full of recipes and other information as well. You can order directly on their website – super easy! They even have contests and giveaways!

The Saucy Mama items I reviewed are a very small portion of all of the items that Barhyte Specialty Food carries. I couldn’t list them all here if I tried. They have oodles of marinades, dressings, mustards and so much more. Horseradish sauce? Check. Sea Salts? Oh yes. I was really surprised how reasonably priced their products were. I think their items would make great food gifts! If you are having a hard time choosing which ones to order, you can just choose a gift basket that has pre-selected goodies.  I cannot wait for you to browse around on the Saucy Mama website when you enter the giveaway below! Yes – the super nice people at Saucy Mama want you to try their saucy goodness too, so you can treat your tastebuds this summer {and every season} just like I did.
