The harsh winter months are upon us and Eucerin has some valuable information for all of us. We all need to be reminded how important our skin is and our skincare routine is of the utmost importance.
Bears hibernate. Squirrels collect and store acorns. What are you doing to prepare for winter? As we gear up for the busy winter months ahead, don’t forget to also prepare your skin for the cold, sometimes harsh weather. In addition to preparing with proper cleansers and moisturizers, keeping up with your exercise routine is important for your skin’s health. November’s Skin FIRST Movement Update is about helping protect your skin from the cold weather, and teaching you how to improve your skin’s health through total body healthcare.
With the upcoming holidays, planning of winter activities and visiting family and friends, you don’t want to add one more thing to your day. But dry skin can occur when your skin is exposed to temperature changes like dry, cold or windy weather – and don’t be fooled into thinking it’s just the outdoor weather that can harm you, indoor heat can cause skin to dry out as well.
I know for me, personally, my skin gets completely dried out in winter. I really dislike greasy lotions though, and sometimes do not apply them when I have a big to do list. I have found though, that when I use Eucerin, I don’t have the greasy feeling after applying their lotion – which is especially important when I use lotion on my hands. This winter I will use lotion every single day!
Dry skin affects up to 20 percent of the population and can put skin at risk for bacterial, viral and fungal infections, making moisturizing extra necessary. Moisturizers like Eucerin Plus Smoothing Essentials bind water to the skin for long lasting moisturization. The result: a softer and more elastic stratum corneum with strengthened protective properties.
When you’re cleaning and moisturizing, don’t forget about your hands. Some people tend to forget how important they are to overall skin health and focus on their face and neck. Your hands get into everything, from scalding hot water in the kitchen sink to the freezing cold outdoor temperatures. You can protect your hands by choosing washes and moisturizers designed to replace lost lipids, maintain the physiological pH of your hands’ stratum corneum and promote skin’s natural renewal process. Also, when going outside in the cold weather, always wear gloves!
In addition to your overall health, when you exercise your skin also benefits. Physical activity maintains the health of tiny blood vessels in the skin so they can supply adequate blood and oxygen. This helps provide skin with a healthy glow and also aids in the production of collagen. It also helps get rid of toxins your body doesn’t need.
Also, just because the winter months are upon us doesn’t mean you don’t need to wear sunscreen. If you go outdoors to exercise continue to use sunscreen year round. When you’re slaloming down the slopes, don’t forget to use sun protective moisturizers like Eucerin Protective Face Lotion SPF 30 and Eucerin Everyday Protection SPF 15 Body Lotion and SPF 30 Face Lotion at all times to help protect from winter sunburn.
Use these tips to put your Skin FIRST this winter and keep your skin and body healthy all the way into spring 2011! Take the Eucerin Skin FIRST Pledge to gain access to skin health and beauty updates that you can share with your friends.

I learned when my hands get cold the blood vessels constrict and they get less water. So I have to keep my hands warm,so they don’t dry out as much.

The most important thing I learned was to keep your skin moisturized by using lotion daily.
