I recently reviewed a cookbook that not only has delicious recipes, but it is very, very clever. Bite me is an unusual cookbook, to say the least, but I prefer it’s style over traditional, boring cookbooks. The photos are wonderful, and the recipes are all very unique.
Bite Me by passionate eaters and skilled feeders (and sisters!) Julie Albert and Lisa Gnat, contains 175 dependably delicious recipes created for the urban and the suburban, the aspiring and the well-seasoned cook.

With a side order of sass (the section dedicated to soups is aptly named “Spoon Me”, the chapter on Fish is entitled “Catch Me” and the book concludes with “Fork Me: Desserts for a Happy Ending”) the recipes in Bite Me do not require an army of sous-chefs, a pantry of guava paste, or blowtorch to turn a bag of groceries into a satisfying meal for a weeknight meal, casual dinner party, or formal holiday gathering. Both authors are busy working mothers with three kids each — they both understand the importance of making cooking and entertaining fun and stress-free.
What a fun website to browse – I found some really useful {and funny!} information. There is an “Entertain Me” section that has some great ideas for a festive party, including fun recipes, decorations and more. There is a “Read Me” section that has very clever blog posts, and yummy recipes. I found one for ‘Easy Potato Latkes’ that I cannot wait to try!

While browsing through the cookbook, a few things caught my eye, that I really love. The ingredients for each recipe are located on the left hand side of the instructions, which make it super easy to “keep your place”. Nothing bothers me more when cooking, than getting lost as I am adding ingredients. This way makes it super easy to keep track. The recipes are easy to follow, even if they look complex {most do not}. Also sprinkled throughout the book are “Bite Me Bits”. They are just fun little trivia pieces.

I haven’t had a chance to try the recipes yet, as I have been super busy with the holidays, but I have found a few that I will be trying pretty shortly. The Balsamic Chicken with Sweet Peppers looks absolutely heavenly. There is a recipe for Beef Bourguignon that I am dying to try. I have never made it before, partly because all of the recipes I have seen for it, look difficult. This one does not look hard at all. For dessert, I am eying the Twinkorette Peach Crumb Cake – swoon!
The sections of the book are broken down {with funny names}, but they include appetizers, soups, salads, pasta and rice, poultry, fish, brunch and of course, desserts.
You can purchase the Bite Me Cookbook for $24.95 US {ARV} online and at retailers near you.

I checked out the make me tab on the Bite Me site and many of the recipes sound great. We love trying new meat loafs and also enjoy mushrooms in many recipes so MAGNIFIQUE MEATLOAF WITH MUSHROOM GRAVY sounds like one we’d love.
