Although I have one outdoor kitty (well technically two if you include Magnificat – the neighbor’s cat who never goes home), I prefer keeping my kitties indoors. I have my own reasons for this, including one of my cats that was hit by a car years and years ago. The reason I have an outdoor kitty now is that she came to us, and does not like to be indoors. Since we live on a quiet cul-de-sac, I feel that she is pretty safe.
When I was growing up we always had indoor/outdoor cats. They came and went as they pleased. This worked out great for us, as the entire yard was their litter box. Having indoor cats certainly makes more work for me, and changing or scooping out the litter box is definitely not one of my favorite chores. I despise it in fact. I disliked changing my kid’s diapers too, but I still kept them around
Scooping the litter boxes is my job too. Nobody else will touch them and I can’t really blame them.
Besides the cleanup of the boxes themselves, I have to sweep around the boxes too. I swear, sometimes it sounds like they are building sandcastles in there. I cringe just a little when I hear them rooting around in the litter box and flinging litter everywhere. I put big garbage bags under each box, but that doesn’t seem to help too much. I try the tracking mats, but they simply jump out of the other side of the box. Grrrr.
I am enjoying the Arm & Hammer Clumping Cat Litter though. It keeps the smells at bay, and makes my job not quite so icky. That is one plus, right?
Do you have cats? Do you have any tips for making litter box cleaning easier?

I have a cat named Smokey. Her litter used to be not so bad, but she’s gotten older and stinkier, so this sounds like a product I should try!
