I am in the lucky group of parents whose kids actually eat vegetables. They even willingly try most new ones that I ask them to. I feel very fortunate. However, I know many kids that are picky eaters and it makes me so happy when I see companies like Country Crock do fun things to help give parents ideas on how to get their kids headed in the right direction and eating their fruits and veggies.
Can you imagine a Thanksgiving where kids are as happy to eat their veggies as they are turkey? Well, they’re always excited for veggies in Crock Country, a whimsical place where veggies fly off plates and into tummies. And, there’s no better time to bring this place to life in your kitchen than on Thanksgiving.
My girls watch me cook dinner every night and ask to help me all the time. There are many times that I have to tell them no because of their ages but when the opportunity arises that they can help I welcome them with open arms. Growing up my great grandmother also encouraged me to help her out in the kitchen and I learned so much that I want my girls to have the same experience and memories. Sometimes it might be as easy as helping me pour their oatmeal and milk into the bowl then stirring or it could be more difficult when I ask the oldest to add the ingredients (that I have pre-measured) from the recipe into the bowl. That is by far her favorite thing to do.
Have your little chefs help you out and see if they aren’t so proud of what they have created they don’t gobble it down faster than the turkey on their plates. An example, my oldest had it in her head she didn’t like apples. She ate them when she was little but went through about 3 years where she didn’t like them. This fall we went apple picking and she picked her own apple, we cleaned it, and she actually tried it again. Guess what? Yep you guessed it!
