During the holidays, I had a chance to test drive a really neat little car for a whole week! To be quite honest, I hadn’t even heard of a Chevy Cruze before, but I was anxious to see and drive it.
When I first saw the Chevy Cruze, I thought it was really stylish. I loved it’s compact size and it’s good looks, but I was also thrilled to learn how economical it was. In this day and age, a car that gets a bazillion miles per gallen (okay, slight exaggeration, but that’s what it felt like!), saving money on gas is very important. It gets 42 MPG on the highway.
Eco holds the rest of the Cruze family to a high standard, and all the models live up to it. Standard 6-speed transmissions, like the manual in Cruze LS, help offer 36 MPG highway5. Then there’s the 6-speed automatic transmission available on LT and standard on LTZ, with the 1.4L turbocharged engine—a performance increase that helps Cruze offer 38 MPG highway5.
But back to this wonderful little car. The outside of the Chevy Cruze Eco is so sporty – which is definitely my style. I love the headlights, the grill, wheels, and sleek angles. What is neat though is that there is a reason for the curves, lines and angles on the outside of the car. They improve the aerodynamics, which will save you gas!
The seats were very comfortable, and it definitely felt like a “cruising” car. I was first smitten with the sporty console. Everything was right in reach, and I had everything I needed right in front of me. I am a high-tech girl, so I need plugs for my iPhone, iPod, etc., and I love music. The Chevy Cruze that I tested had turn-by-turn navigation system, OnStar, Blue Tooth, and Sirius Radio. To say that I was a happy girl would be an understatement.
One feature I really, really loved was that it tells you how many miles you have left before you run out of gas. Instead of that little orange gas light that comes on when you are low on gas, this allows you to know exactly how long you have to go.
The console was so easy to read, and really attractive.

The Chevy Cruze has some impressive safety features too, including StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System with Traction Control. StabiliTrak helps you stay the course in slippery conditions, by detecting the difference between the path being steered and the direction the vehicle is actually traveling. It then uses the brakes and, if necessary, adjusts engine torque to help keep your Cruze on track. It has 10 standard airbags – including frontal side impact and knee bags for the the driver and front passenger. It also has a high-strength steel safety cage and roof crush resistance.
The Chevy Cruze Eco that I drove had a 6-speed automatic transmission. I thought it was pretty powerful for such a small car – I zipped all over the place and had quite a bit of fun doing it. There was something about the feel of the car that was really different than other cars I have driven. I can’t put my finger on it but I just kind of meshed with it, and it felt completely comfortable.
The backseat was surprisingly roomy. Of course, we are all pretty short in our family, but I do think that even taller folks would be comfortable. It has 60/40 folding rear seats, for added space, if desired.
I was really surprised how quiet the cabin’s interior was.
The Chevy Cruze is a great car for running around town quickly, and it is definitely easy on the pocketbook too, when traveling or just running errands. If I was still working outside the home, this would be a perfect car for commuting. It would also be an excellent car for your children, as their first car. The price is right too, at around only $14,000.00!
