Infant Meningitis

Meningococcal disease, also called meningitis, is a very serious disease that causes infection of the membrane that surrounds the brain and spinal cord.  My husband had Encephalitis as a child (which is similar to Meningitis) and it was incredibly scary.

Meningitis can affect people of all ages, but it is especially serious in teens, children and infants. In fact, it can kill a previously healthy child within 24-48 hours of the first symptoms (and many times it mimics the flu). The video shown on the Protect Infants Now website, is very informative, and I hope you will take a look at it so you can be informed as well.  I have heard of meningitis before, but I honestly didn’t know how very devastating it is. Nobody should have to go through this when it can be prevented.

Meningitis Angels, an organization that is dedicated to raising awareness about meningitis and other vaccine-preventable diseases, is trying to encourage the CDC to include meningitis vaccines in the recommended vaccination schedule for infants. The CDC is gathering public opinions and your voice needs to be heard to help eliminate this horrible disease.

Please watch the video below, which explains how you can help.

I hope you will join me in signing the Protect Infants Now (PIN) Petition – together we can make a difference!

*I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central and Meningitis Angels. This campaign was made possible in part through support provided by Novartis Vaccines. A small donation to a charity of my choice was made in my name from Mom Central as a thank-you for participating. All opinions in this posting are 100% my own.

  1. Thank you for sharing this! As a mother who sat by the hospital bed of a seriously ill child, I know first hand that meningococcal disease is real. We were incredibly lucky with our child, but I know other parents who were not nearly so lucky.
