Happy Groundhog’s Day! Now that February is officially upon us, we all know that means that Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. As the parents of boys, that typically means a lot of baking and one lucky woman who gets to have three very special Valentine’s. Not that I’m complaining, of course, but all of the typical pinks, hearts, and flowery things do not make much of a presence in our house full of guys. Luckily, we have an adorable niece that we can spoil when my urge for girly things kicks in. One thing that crosses over to both sexes, however, is simple – cooking. So, when offered the opportunity to review a children’s tent that tied in a pretend play culinary feature, I jumped at the chance.

HearthSong is a wonderful company that has hundreds of products for every child in any age group. Their current Valentine’s Day category has plenty to choose from and, for once, I had finally come across a few themed items that were geared towards boys! The Sweetheart Cottage Tent, however, covered all of the bases. Every child loves tents, our niece was thrilled with its color amongst the sea of blues from big brother’s toys, and all four children had a blast “cooking” and playing together. The Sweetheart Cottage Tent play set was a breeze to set up and only took about five minutes to do so. Along with the tent, the set comes with a miniature foam oven, cookies, a spatula, and a baking tray. There is even an adorable little apron for your little head chef! Now, while there was some debate as to whether or not it was cookies or burgers that were being made, it was fun to see all of the children interacting with one another and putting their imaginations to good use.

Featuring products that allow children to use their imaginations is one of the many reasons that I love HearthSong. My boys used to stay far away from all things pink because society has deemed it and all things colored such as “girly.” The Sweetheart Cottage Tent is different. Yes, it is quite pink but even my manly-man little ones enjoyed playing a game of “house” with their cousins. From camping to cooking and reading bedtime stories to saving dolls from a pretend fire after a play oven mishap, this toy allowed all of the kids to become the adults of their own little home.

After receiving the product, I learned that the Sweetheart Cottage Tent is not alone in its playtime fun but, instead, goes along with an entire village! With the whole collection, kids can role play as a pastry chef, a gorgeous cosmetologist, a sweet bakery owner, and even a postal worker! My favorite feature from the Sweetheart Cottage Tent is that, when not in use, the whole tent and all of the accessories can be broken down and stored easily inside of the oven! The biggest concern with most play tents is the amount of space that they require. Space is certainly not an issue with this product. When playtime is over you can easily stow it all away until next time!

Our Sweetheart Cottage Tent has now found a wonderful home within our niece’s bedroom but our boys still ask about visiting and cooking on a regular basis. Valentine’s Day, here, will still be its usual lovey-dovey goodies and movies event but, perhaps after brushing up on their baking skills thanks to HearthSong, this year will be much sweeter – literally. The Sweetheart Cottage Tent from HearthSong has definitely been a huge hit for us, all around, and I am certainly looking forward to see what they have in store for the rest of the year.
