$25 SONIC Gift Card Giveaway – Celebrate SONIC Drive-In Summer of Shakes!
Sonic Summer of Shakes
I have been seeing Sonic commercials on my television for years, yet had never been to a Sonic restaurant until recently. Part of the reason is that there isn’t one very close to my home, however there are TWO Sonic’s close-by our retirement home (where I frequently vacation)!
When Sonic asked me to do a review of their Summer of Shakes, I was very, very excited. Not only would I finally be able to try Sonic, but their shakes and teas sound incredibly refreshing.
My friend and her husband and my husband and I headed down last weekend and one of the first things she and I did was head to Sonic to pick up lunch for us and the boys. We got online first so everyone could choose what they wanted, and it was quite funny, as we all had a very hard time deciding what shake to order! See what I mean?
When we looked at the menu, we were slightly overwhelmed (in a good way). There were SO many tasty items to choose from! She and I each got a Sonic Bacon Cheeseburger, and the guys wanted the Supersonic Bacon Double Cheeseburgers. We also ordered fries, onion rings and Ched R Peppers. And shakes of course!
My husband actually chose two shakes, as he just couldn’t decide. He got the Pineapple Shake and the Peanut Butter Fudge. One really interesting shake flavor was the Peanut Butter n’ Bacon! I have heard of this combination before, but never in a shake. My friend’s husband just had to try this flavor and he loved it. He said that it was REAL bacon with lots of flavor. He did suggest that Sonic make bigger straws to come with their shakes, as it was hard to suck up the bacon (my husband said the same about his pineapple shake). I guess the good part of that is that there are actually REAL goodies in their milkshakes! I chose the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Shake and my friend finally decided on the Strawberry Cheesecake. We both thoroughly enjoyed ours – the strawberry flavor was fresh, not artificial, and hers had graham cracker crumbs throughout. Mine had plenty of chocolate and it really tasted like a chocolate covered strawberry! There was a whole lot of “mmm”ing and “omg”ing going on while we were enjoying our frozen treats. After all, Sonic uses real ice cream!
You might notice that there are six shakes above. They accidentally made two of the Strawberry Cheesecake. They let us have it
How was the food? Simply amazing. I am not a big fast food hamburger kind of girl, but the hamburger that I had from Sonic Drive-In was very, very good. The meat actually reached to the edge of the bun (unlike some other places I won’t mention here), and it tasted really fresh. My friend and the boys agreed that it was a tasty burger! Oh and the Ched r’ Peppers? SO good! The only complaint was the french fries. They were a little limp. It was lunchtime and quite busy, so this may have been why. They would have been great if they were cooked just a bit longer.
The boys left on Sunday, and my friend and I stayed two extra days. Guess what we did? We went to Sonic again on both of those days! We just had to try more stuff (yep – we liked it that much). We were able to try the corn dogs (small but super tasty), and the Asiago Chicken Sandwiches and both days we got the Lemonberry Fruit Slush (oh, so good).
We also tried the OrangeCream Slushes (which are like 50/50 bars). They were both so refreshing, especially since the weather was in the 90’s!
SONIC has a new line of Iced Green Teas as well! They are available in sweet and diet, and they can be paired with five new sugar-free flavor mix-ins: Peach, Mango, Raspberry, Blackberry and Mint.
