We rescued a kitten this past winter and it was certainly a huge process. A cousin of mine actually runs a local animal rescue so I definitely had help in the necessary steps. After alerting the local authorities and shelters, the first task we checked off of the list was having him scanned (multiple times) for any possible microchips. Upon doing so, it occurred to me that not everyone gets their pets chipped. With no chip found, we cared for him for a few weeks while we waited for someone to lay claim to him. No one did, so we officially welcomed him into our own family. Now, both of our cats are, in fact, chipped. I couldn’t imagine losing them so we do what we can to insure their safe return in the event that they ever do get lost. In addition to their respective chips, they also wear collars complete with their names and our information. I think that they are pretty well off between both but I recently had the opportunity to try out a new product that offers this same security with an added ease of use. logo (500x500) FinderCodes are putting together the typical information platform and today’s technology to help keep your pets safe. Microchips, though still a good option, do have their own downsides. Many pet owners don’t bother registering the codes and there have been cases where microchips have failed to work properly. More than eight million lost pets end up in shelters across the country every year with only an average of 17% being reunited with their owners. I mentioned that we had our rescue kitten scanned multiple times and this is due to the lack of a standardized system for microchips. Many chips can only be picked up by its coinciding scanner and, since there are numerous different brands of microchips, we had to check for each type individually.

For pet owners seeking a better way to keep track of their furry friends, the Pet Owner Lost and Found Kit by FinderCodes is a safer, less invasive and more convenient alternative to microchips. New to the market, it combines the use of mobile phones, GPS location services, QR codes and apps to provide an affordable and foolproof system for keeping track of your pets.

If, by chance, your lovable little furry family members do end up going missing, FinderCodes will help them on their journey home. When someone does find your adorable friend, all they need to do is snap a quick scan of the QR code on the tag and voila! All of the information that you’ve made available in your FinderCodes account is instantly available to the finder. Once the process is initiated, the owner is alerted via text message and email that includes a map of the pet’s location. The owner can, then, securely communicate with the finder to arrange the pet’s safe return.

  31. I liked the Electronics Lost & Found Kit too~! I’d forget my head if it wasn’t attached so this would come in handy. I love that they came out with this new technology because it’s so much better than the microchip. Putting a foreign object in the body of an animal can make them sick with an immune problem. That’s why I have never done my pets but this I would do. Thanks for sharing it with us~!
