I admit the time I have to spend painting my nails is laughable. Add in the fact that polish quickly chips for me – no matter the top coat, base coat, or prayers to the polish gods – I just get frustrated and wonder what is the point? So when I heard that an independent consultant from Jamberry Nails would send me a set of nail wraps[*], I was curious to see how long they would last!
While browsing Jamberry Nails, I felt a little giddy. There are SO many beautiful designs! Over 200 and you can customize your own!
I had a hard time narrowing it down, but ended up choosing the peacock design for my review. And while I was at it I bought three other sets. *chuckle*
Before I sat down to apply the nail wraps, I read the instructions to make sure I had everything I needed.
- Hair dryer or mini-heater
- Cuticle pusher
- Scissors
- Emory board
Each Jamberry Nails set has many size options. Everyone’s nail beds are different! Mine are, for sure. You see, I have what I call stubby thumbs. They are short and wide and, normally, finding a tip to fit my thumbs is a challenge. But I was able to match a wrap to my thumbs {even if it is meant for toenails – ha!}.
I think there is a bit of a learning curve with the application. So I asked The Mister to trim the wraps on my right hand {he loves me!} so I could file them down with ease. He obliged, then I filed the edges down with a more meticulous eye.
How’d they hold up?
I made notes as to how my peacock nail wraps held up to the havoc motherhood normally wreaks on my nails.
Day four: I notice some minor lifting in areas.
Day six: The lifting is beginning to make my OCD twitch. I notice slight fading at tips and cuticle grow out.
Day ten: {not pictured} One nail wrap snags on clothes as I throw laundry into the dryer. *boo*
I also asked my sister to try the London Fog Ombré wraps. She is an unapologetic polish addict, but had yet to try Jamberry Nails nail wraps. She was excited because she has fellow polish pals that use and love them. Hers wrinkled a bit, despite how much she tried to fix it. And unfortunately with all the work she does with her hands {she works overnight in retail, stocking, unloading trucks, etc.} they didn’t last beyond the first night.
There are two methods of removal; either heating the wraps up and breaking the seal or soaking in nail polish remover. Since many wraps were already lifting, I opted for the first. They came off easily and I used a little lemon essential oil to remove any lingering stick. After washing my hands I was ready to apply a new set!
This time I felt much more comfortable applying the wraps myself. I did the London Fog Ombré with an Uno Mo Mo accent nail. I love taking a nude neutral tone and making it not so ordinary!
Ten days for me, considering my normal two-day turnaround with nail polish, is impressive. And I love that there are no fumes when I use these nail wraps. None of that toxic stuff to keep far away from the kids. Just pretty nails. I can dig it!
My daughter wanted me to note that she wants nail wraps, too. She is envious of my nails. I think having a non toxic nail wrap that fits little fingernails would be sublime! Pretty please, Jamberry Nails?
