I read about this and just had to laugh…
There is a judge in Colorado that I think is pretty cool. When teenagers and young adults end up in his courtroom for blaring their car stereos, the judge informs them that they will spend a Friday evening in his courtroom listening to music of his choice! No, the paying of fines isn’t allowed…then he asks if they’ve heard of Barry Manilow and Boy George.
Young people that have been sent to court for blaring car stereos might be in for a night of the “Barney” theme song, then move on to opera, and end the evening with Boy George’s “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me”.
The judge decided to go this route because it was ineffective for parents just to pay a fine. He wanted to give them a taste of their own medicine. He selects the songs by their ability to annoy the younger set. On a recent Friday night the bailiff greeted the offenders as they walked, slumped and scowling, through the metal detector at City Hall. One teen’s lips twitched as the opening notes of a “Barney” song blared.
Well, it gets the point across…not everyone wants to hear their music!
