I was contacted by Triscuit recently to see if I wanted to plant some vegetable seeds that are included in boxes of Triscuits. Well sure I would! I love gardening – I have been gardening for years and years. At our old house where we had more space, I grew lots of veggies, including Blue Lake Beans, zucchini and pumpkins. It was one of my favorite things to do. I remember as a child, my dad planted all varieties of vegetables. We always had a fresh supply of zucchini, beans, squash, rhubarb, strawberries and more. Sometimes the crops were so abundant that there was no way we could possibly use them all. My dad would put tomatoes and zucchini in plastic bags, and my friends and I would load them up in my wagon, and give them to the neighbors. They were thrilled of course, as many of them didn’t have the room in their own yard for a garden.
Urban Farming is a non-profit organization. They have a mission to create an abundance of food for people in need by planting farms on unused land and space while increasing diversity, educating youth, adults and seniors and providing an environmentally sustainable system to uplift communities. Their funding of community-based home farms is core to the continued growth of The Home Farming Movement in urban areas. Urban Farming welcomes everyone to get involved. Volunteering at a farm or donating food is just two ways that you can help. Triscuit is proud to be working with Urban Farming to fund and help create 50 new community-based home farms throughout the United States. Triscuit has included plantable herb seed cards in 4 million boxes of Triscuits to help encourage people to grow their own vegetables and herbs! Triscuit has also created a website that includes information about growing vegetables at home, a crop guide, community forums, and lots more!
I think this is a pretty neat idea. Community farms are so helpful to those who may not have the money or means to buy fresh vegetables. It is so cost-effective to plant a veggie garden, and to me, the finished product just tastes better.
I received two boxes of Triscuits, each including a seed packet. The Original Triscuits come with basil seeds and the Reduced Fat Triscuits come with dill seeds. I have planted the dill seeds so far, and I am anxiously waiting for them to sprout. I can’t wait to use my fresh herbs in my cooking – they are just so much better than dried herbs. My hope is to start a vegetable garden here at my newer house. I may have to do it in pots, but that is okay – just so I do it!
Head on over to the Triscuit Home Farming website where you can join in forums, get help with planting, even put your garden on the map for everyone else to see! Don’t forget to keep your eye out for the specially marked boxes of Triscuits next time you are at the store, so you can plant a garden too!
I received two boxes of Triscuits and a gift card to help with the expenses. Please refer to my Acknowledgment Policy for further information.

What a great idea, I love the flavored Triscuits, especially with Mozzarella cheese slices on them… YUMMY!! I have a huge basil plant on my patio that I use in almost everything I cook. Some days I just go and pick some leave to make the house smell nice.
I can’t wait to buy some boxes with the seeds inside to grow more herbs – they seem to be the only things I don’t kill. TeeHee
