This week’s Sunday Featured Blogger is Cheryl from The Beautiful Side of Hectic.
If you haven’t “met” Cheryl yet, you are in for a real treat. She is so funny, as demonstrated below.
What is the name of your blog and how did you choose this name for your blog?
The name of my blog is The Beautiful Side of Hectic. I wish there was some wonderfully awesome story to share with you on how I got the name. Like I was beaten by ninjas and they described what I should name my site. But alas, no. Instead? When Stef was designing my very pretty wordpress blog, she asked me what we should name it. I said ‘I don’t know, this is why you’re the brains behind this operation. And the beauty, because we know I’m not the beauty’. She came up with the Beautiful Side of Hectic, and it seemed to work well for me! Plus, I didn’t have to make a decision, always a bonus in my mind.
How long have you had your blog?
I’ve had my blog for eleventy million years. Ok, not really. Just over 3.5 years, but in the beginning, it was a crappy blog that had no sense of flow or real sentence structure.
What made you start a blog?
Well, when Lauren (my oldest daughter) was 8 months old, we moved from Nova Scotia to Ontario (we’re Canadian, eh?) when we moved to Ontario, I used my blog to keep our family and friends updated on our life in Ontario. I didn’t update it regularly and like I said before it sucked.
Tell us a little about yourself – do you have kids? grandkids? pets?
I have 3 kids. Scratch that. 2 kids. I say three because sometimes my husband acts like a child. My children are: Lauren who is almost 4 (in January) and Jillian who just turned 2 in September. Although, Jillian shouldn’t be 2 until November. I think she came early so she could have 2 birthdays, sadly, it doesn’t work like that. Almost a year ago, Jillian was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy as a result of her prematurity. We are also getting a cat today, actually! I’m worried that the girls will make the cat dress up and sit in Lauren’s play stroller. In my previous life (aka: before I became someone’s mom) I studied music education and I can play 10 musical instruments. I have also recently lost 60 lbs, which I consider one of my greatest accomplishments, besides procreating.
Did you take any fun vacations over the summer?
Fun vacations? No. Not so fun vacations? That is a negative too. Unfortunately, my husband had to take 5 weeks vacation when he was in between projects, so, we were in Nova Scotia for 5 weeks in April/May, and had no more vacation left to take this summer. Hopefully next summer we’ll plan something wickedly awesome cool.
What are some of your favorite blogs?
I honestly think I have far too many favourite blogs. When I don’t have a novel to read, I read blogs. And I usually start at the beginning and read all the way through. This also makes me a great blog stalker. I’m not good at leaving comments just because I usually feel ridiculous when I bring up something they have said a LONG time ago!
What do you think makes a good blog? Why?
Content. I don’t really like visiting blogs where I have to search for content. Review/giveaway blogs have their space (I don’t want to make enemies here!) and I get really sad when I only find review/giveaway and I can’t enter because I’m Canadian. Stupid country.
What is a complaint you have about some blogs?
AUTO LOADING MUSIC. Turn that crap off! Sometimes I forget and my speakers are on and then it scares the crap out of me! I find it really annoying and most of the time I won’t return. I also hate captcha’s when I decide to leave a comment…
What is your favorite Meme?
I guess my favourite meme would be Wordless Wednesday. Except most of my Wordless Wednesday’s aren’t very wordless.
How many Memes do you participate in weekly?
I only USUALLY participate in Worldless Wednesday. I keep saying that I’m going to participate in Monday Mingles. I should get on that.
What blogger events have you been to?
I haven’t been to any blogger events. Living in Canada and not having a passport creates a problem. I’m hoping to rectify this situation by going to Blissdom Canada in October.
What is the best prize you have ever won in a giveaway?
It wasn’t really a giveaway, but last year, Trisha was one of the Influencial moms and we discussed how to gain more information about kids with disabilities. I wrote that we’ve never had a child with special needs as a MAIN character in children’s show. They picked my response and I won a roomba!
What is the best/favorite post you have ever written?
Well, Rhea and I recently talked about vaginas. (http://beautifulsideofhectic.com/2010/09/a-conversation-about-vaginas/) it was pretty hilarious and maybe we’ll make it into a weekly thing!
What is the most exciting thing that has happened with your blog lately?
Um, talking about vaginas? Ok, that’s not true. I just recently started doing reviews/giveaways, I’m loving it so far!
Where will we find you the most – Twitter or Facebook?
FACEBOOK. I always say that if I wanted to talk to myself (ie: Twitter) I’d talk to my kids. Seems like no matter how many people I TRY to talk to, I still end up talking to myself. Maybe I AM actually boring!
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Not that I can think of?! I could tell you some very embarrassing things, but then what would draw you to my blog? Feel free to grab a cup of coffee or wine- whatever your beverage is and join me while I try to meander through this motherhood thing without causing TOO much need for therapy- for either myself or my kids!!
Thanks for being featured this week Cheryl! I hope everyone will head over and say hi to her, and make sure you read the *cough* post she mentions above – it is classic!
