You know how it’s a couple of days before payday and the only things in your freezer are the roast beef that looked so good at the grocery store and some ground beef that could become either spaghetti or meatloaf? Well, that’s where we were a couple of days ago when a special dry ice filled box from Schwan’s arrived at my front door. I couldn’t have been more excited and neither could the hubs. The three younger kids had abandoned us for my mother~in~law’s place for the weekend (freshly baked cakes, cookie and pies, can you blame them?).
So I tore into the box, shook out the dry ice and started prepping for dinner. The box contained a complete meal for 4: Schwan’s new Steakhouse Seasoned Flat Iron Beef Steaks, Lemon Garlic Seasoned Vegetable Blend and “Monkeying Around” Banana ice cream.
The steaks arrived frozen but were easily defrosted in less than 20 minutes under cold running water. Already seasoned, the cooking instructions suggested putting the steaks on the grill but that wasn’t an option for me (my grill has become the permanent residence of a swarm of wasps), so I put the steaks in the oven and broiled them for about 15 minutes, then bumped the oven up enough to brown them… Omg, delish! Even the hubs was impressed and it takes a lot to get his approval when it comes to steaks.
The Lemon Garlic Seasoned Vegetable Blend consisted of broccoli, yellow carrots, red peppers and green beans in a lightly seasoned lemon~garlic sauce. Imagine me rolling my eyes at the deliciousness of it all.
Now to the important part ~ dessert. I love monkeys, so when it came time to choose which dessert I wanted to try, the choice was clear ~ “Monkeying Around” Banana ice cream. A creamy banana flavored ice cream with chunks of fudge covered banana chunks and graham cracker swirls, what’s not to love? Mmmmmm, I think I ate almost the entire box by myself. OK, that’s a lie, I did eat the entire box by myself….
With this being the unofficial start of the summer season, why not let Schwan’s help you serve up the perfect dish for any occasion (graduation parties, anyone?). They have the oh so delicious Steakhouse Seasoned Flat Iron Steaks that I tried, or you can try their unbreaded chicken breast fillets or Black Angus Steak Burgers ~ all perfect for tossing on the grill.
For those of you who are trying to get swimsuit ready, Schwan’s offers single serve low fat, low calorie foods in their LiveSmart line: Turkey Sausage Patties and Rotini Alfredo with Broccoli Florets. These single serves are perfect for lunches on the go.
Disclosure: The meal was provided to me courtesy of Schwan’s in exchange for this review.
