I recently posted about how I went shopping for outdoor holiday decorations (excluding lights) at Kmart. I also promised that I would show you my home once it was all decorated!
The holidays to me mean home, comfort and family. When I decorate the house, it brings back fond memories of my childhood, and I also do it for my own children and the other kids in the neighborhood. Seeing houses all lit up and festive during the holidays brings that feeling of excitement for both children and adults. We don’t have any traditions now that my children are older, but we do love being today during the holidays – whether we are cooking together, eating, or talking and laughing. They are beautiful times…
I have had a blast with this project. Below are a few pictures to show you what I came up with.
I first hung this beautiful arrangement on our front door:
Remember the bows I should you? Here is an up-close picture to show you how they look. I attached one on either side of our gazebo entrance:
I simply adore these darling little snowmen pathway lights! I had a bit of trouble getting them installed, as they didn’t want to stay on the stakes, but I finally got them all to stand upright.
Now my favorite part of decorating was putting the huge shatterproof ornaments on our redwood tree. Since I am only 5’2 and our redwood tree is about 35 feet tall, I was only able to decorate the lower branches. These colorful ornaments certainly brighten up our tree, and when I added the “snow in a can” to the branches, I felt like I was in a whole different region – not sunny California!
And finally a view of all of the ornaments on the tree:
I cut a few branches from the redwood tree and placed them on our fence where our front gate is, then I put some of the red ribbon I purchased in and sprayed with a little snow. I think this is such a beautiful way to welcome our guests:
I also made some little ties out of the ribbon to put on the redwood tree (and an up-close shot of the snow!):
The spiral tree really brightened up the area where our driveway meets our pathway – I really do love this.
I will definitely be doing my holiday shopping at Kmart next year as well, for both outdoor AND indoor decor. I was able to complete this project for less than $100!
