Where do I begin? I have so much to tell you about my Marvel’s the Avengers experience, so I will be breaking this up into a few posts.
I arrived in the Big Apple early Friday morning (like REALLY early – I took a red eye flight). Most of the bloggers on this trip did the same, as we wanted to enjoy a day in the city before the festivities began. There were 25 mom bloggers, including myself, as well as the wonderful Marshall Weinbaum – our host and friend for this amazing trip.
We had a blast in NYC on Friday and again on Saturday morning – just exploring the city and taking in the sights.
Everywhere I looked, I saw Marvel’s the Avengers photos and billboards. There were signs in Times Square, on other buildings throughout NYC and even in the airport baggage claim area! Of course this added to my excitement. 🙂
Saturday afternoon, we interviewed Cobie Mulders and Tom Hiddleson (I’ll tell you all about these later in the week), then we attended the Tribeca Film Festival Red Carpet Screening of MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS!
We arrived at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center early in the evening and watched the stars arriving to walk the red carpet. Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Colbie Smulders, Tom Hiddleson and others showed up first, and other celebrities arrived as well. Talk about papparazzi – it was CRAZY! We heard the crowd shouting, “Michael, Michael!”, and it was Michael J. Fox arriving! Also on the red carpet was Christine Lahti (love her!).
We were seated together, and the excitement in the air was evident. We had been waiting all day for the screening, and it was hard to contain ourselves! While we were waiting, something special happened:
The real, everyday heroes were honored. This really touched me, as my husband (and many of our friends) are in law enforcement, and so often don’t receive the recognition they deserve. This is true of so many heroes – police, firefighters and the men and women who put their lives on the line each and every day, to protect us. It was heartwarming to have them honored at this event. After the movie superheroes were introduced one by one and brought on stage, Robert Downey Jr. gave a quick speech to honor the real heroes (although it was hard to hear him because of the much deserved applause for the real heroes).
Marvel’s the Avengers started and the audience went silent, not wanting to miss a thing. When the movie title was shown on the screen, the crowd went wild. I am not ashamed to admit that us bloggers were some of the loudest.
Marvel’s the Avengers was amazing…simply amazing. I have to be honest and say that I previously hadn’t watched many Superhero/action movies, so I was apprehensive (jut a little…) at when I first heard about this movie. I have learned that I have totally been missing out! I expected an action-packed movie (which it definitely was), but I wasn’t expecting the humor, or to fall in love with the characters. I was glued to the screen and followed the story closely.
Robert Downey Jr. did an excellent job as Ironman – and now I know that I must see his other “Ironman” movies. Mark Ruffalo was absolutely charming, and Tom Hiddleston was perfect as “Loki”. Having met him in the interview prior to the movie, it was hard to believe it was the same person. He truly is an amazing actor. He also looks quite different in the movie than he did in the interview! Cobie Smulder (S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill) was very likable, although I wish she had been on screen more. She is a powerful woman, and I loved her in this role. Scarlett Johansson was a force to be reckoned with – you’ll see! She was absolutely fantastic. Samuel L. Jackson (as Nick Fury) was “cool” as always – gosh I love him!
When the film ended, I think the whole audience was a bit sad. We all seemed to be so engrossed in the film, it was hard to see it come to an end (but as they say, all good things come to an end, right?). We had our pictures taken individually – which was pretty fun:
The bloggers even posed with the every day heroes:
Oh, and do you remember the touching video about the son and his father coming home that I posted previously? They were there! In case you missed the video, I have posted it again below. If you are in need of a smile, this video is for you:
The Marvel the Avenger’s Red Carpet Screening in New York City was such a wonderful (and once in a lifetime) experience. I am so excited to share the rest of my trip with you, so make sure you check back every day this week! In addition to the Marvel’s the Avengers coverage, I will be sharing a post or two about the fun things I did in the city.
To follow the excitement, make sure you check out #TheAvengersEvent on Twitter, follow @Avengers on Twitter, Marvel’s the Avengers on Facebook and of course the Marvel’s the Avengers official website! For even more fun, you might want to keep an eye on #Lokisgirls and #TeamLoki. Yes, our group of mom bloggers is pretty much in love with the guy 🙂
Marvel’s the Avengers is rated PG-13 and will be in theaters this Friday, May 4th. Can you stand the wait?
*I was provided complimentary lodging and travel from Disney, for coverage of Marvel’s the Avengers Red Carpet event coverage. No other form of compensation was received.
