Floor and Decor – DIY can be fun!

We are fortunate to own two homes – one that we have been in for nine years, and the second that we bought for our retirement. We currently split up our time between the two homes, which means we notice DIY projects that need to be done on both.

The home we’ve been in for nine years really needs some work. It is a great house for the most part, and we have done a few projects, but there are plenty more to do. We really need to update the master bath, and the 1/2 bath downstairs. The first project though, is replacing the floor in the kitchen. It has a really nice laminate floor (it came with the house), but unfortunately, over time, water has seeped through the cracks (mostly due to my daughter flinging water everywhere when she does the dishes!), and it has caused a few “bumps” in the floor in a few places.

We will be replacing the floor with ceramic tile, as it will hold up better with our family.  Floor and Decor will be where we do our shopping as they have a huge selection of every kind of tile and floor covering imaginable.  We even have the option of a wood look in our kitchen, with the Ceramic Wood Plank tiles – I had no idea such a thing existed!

For our master bathroom project, we would like to have travertine installed.  I have been drooling over all of the travertine that Floor and Decor has (and they will totally fit comfortably in our budget!), but basically we want something like this Antique Bari Travertine:

This would look AMAZING in our master shower, which is huge and currently so very ugly.  I cannot wait to do this project, and be able to step in my shower and say “Ahhhh” (instead of “ewwww”). Did I mention that the price for this at Floor and Decor is only $1.59/sq. ft.?

The other home is beautiful and doesn’t need too much work, however the downstairs is mostly tile with “patches” of carpet. I would love to make all of the rooms flow, and want to replace the carpeted areas with tile. Here is how they look currently:

We don’t want to spend a fortune on our flooring though, as there are still other projects pending.  We would like to find low price flooring since we will be doing projects on each home.

When you visit a Floor and Decor location, this is what you will see:

They have oodles of Porcelain, ceramic, stone, tile, wood and laminate to choose from – my head is kind of spinning, but in a good way. While looking around their website, I have come up with new projects I want to do now – my husband will be thrilled 🙂 For instance, this tile would look fantastic on our outdoor patio at the new house (and the prize is only .75/square foot):

I am completely blown away by the prices at Floor and Decor, and they quite possibly have the best selection in tiles that I have ever seen. If you don’t have a showroom near you, you can order online. This is exactly what we will be doing. I would much rather shop for our home improvement products online, where I can search for exactly what I am looking for, rather than go into one of those huge home improvement centers.

I cannot express just how delighted I am to discover Floor and Decor.  This is going to make all of our home improvement projects SO much easier, and so much more affordable (which might even allow us to do more projects!).  They even have gift cards – which would be a wonderful holiday present for someone you know who is planning a home improvement project.

Make sure you connect with Floor and Decor on Facebook and follow @flooranddecor on Twitter, to keep up with the latest product information, promotions, etc. You definitely want to visit Floor and Decor on Pinterest too – where you will find inspiration and ideas for your next DIY project!

  1. We will have to replace the linoleum in the kids bathroom soon. Kids are very hard on things either because they don’t know or in some instances don’t care! I know there are a lot more products out their since we had the floors done over 10 years ago. They have made it easier for the do-it-yourselfer.
