Alright, how many of you remember or still have an actual house phone? In this technological age they are far and few in between. We had a rotary phone, a corded phone and, even one of those snazzy little clear phones that lit up while ringing. I remember the days before call waiting and those of accidentally eavesdropping on someone’s conversation by simply picking up the phone while another in the house was being used. Most importantly, I remember the telephone ringing – for me! We didn’t have cell phones in elementary school as kids today do. There was no texting. Our friends actually called us just because. And people actually spoke to one another. Imagine that! We didn’t have any popular ringtones but the effervescent *riiiinnnnggg, riiiinnnnggg” of the phone was hard to miss.
It’s hard to imagine my children never knowing that sound or ever learning how to properly use a real telephone. We have not had a home telephone for quite some time and they have only ever been familiar with our cell phones. Recently, our oldest returned home from school with a newfound interest in telephones. The local police and fire department had instructed his class on basic safety and the importance of knowing how to dial “911” in the event of an emergency. This got me to thinking – what if something happened? What if he could not call for help due to our lack of a home phone? What if the cell phones are low on battery power? What if they can’t remember the “unlock” passcode? Just, what if…?
Thankfully, VTech is here to help. I recently had the opportunity to review a pretty amazing new product that answers all of my “What if?” questions. The VTech Connect to Cell product line is truly amazing and helps to keep us grounded in this wireless technology run world. These phones integrate a home telephone system with our everyday use of cell phones through the use of Bluetooth technology. It allows you to use ONE phone system to make and receive ALL calls!
“Missed calls thanks to a misplaced cell phone at home? Not anymore with a Connect to Cell system from VTech. By leveraging Bluetooth® wireless-enabled technology, Connect to Cell makes it possible to place and receive cellular calls through a home phone system. Plus, by downloading your cellular phone book directly onto the handsets, you’ll have quick access to all your contacts from any room.”
The set that we were given to try came with two handsets which was perfect for us. We set up the base in the office with the extra being in our bedroom. The set up was a breeze and allowed us to connect both of our cell phones to this one system. Now, whenever our cells are within thirty feet of the base, our calls transfer to the VTech system. The Connect to Cell even offers users the option of selecting specific ringtones for each individual user. The phone will ring accordingly depending upon which cell phone number is being called. Additionally, when dialing out, you can choose to do so from whichever number you would normally use. Having trouble remembering phone numbers these days? No worries. The VTech Connect to Cell system can sync your cell phone contacts allowing you to literally have everything right at your fingertips.
I love that I no longer have to worry about my children not being able to dial for help in case of an emergency. While we still don’t actually have a landline, VTech has given me peace of mind by offering a telephone that they can use without technically using our cell phones. As for the kids themselves, well, they have their own reasoning for liking the Connect to Cell system – walkie talkies! On top of already being an amazing product, VTech has also integrated push-to-talk technology. This allows you to directly broadcast messages from one handset to another at the push of a button. With two boys in our home, that means spy games and walkie talkies.
Another great aspect of the VTech Connect to Cell system is its ability to save your cell phone battery life. I cannot tell you the amount of times that calls have been lost or completely missed due to the fact that someone (cough, cough – hubby – cough, cough) has forgotten to charge their cell. Having the cells connected via Bluetooth to our new home phone system allows you to charge the cell phones while still, technically using them. It also comes in handy for those days that you accidentally leave your phone on silent or when the noise level in the house is simply too loud to hear a cell phone call. The latter is typically during temper tantrums, little boys’ rambunctious daily musings, or, say, obnoxiously loud men watching football games perhaps.
Speaking of, the Super Bowl is right around the corner, is it not? The Patriots, Falcons, and Broncos have already clinched their respective division titles and it’s certainly looking to be another eventful year for playoffs. That being said, how noisy is it going to get in your house? Could you use a VTech Connect to Cell phone system to insure that you don’t miss any calls? If you answered “yes” to either of those questions, then you’re in luck! You can keep up with them via social media on Facebook and Twitter, but one lucky Eighty MPH Mom reader will win a VTech football prize pack just in time for the NFL playoffs!
