I often joke that laundry is my nemesis. By default, that makes ironing my arch-nemesis. Alas, no matter how long I avoid the small pile of dresses, skirts, dress shirts, and dress pants glowering at me dubiously… At some point it all has to get ironed. T-fal recently sent me their Ultraglide Easycord Iron in the hopes that it would ease some of the dread that comes with ironing. [*]
Of course, as luck would have it, when it arrived, I had *just* tackled my ironing a few days earlier. So I suggested that Luv wear more dresses. Given the sunny weather we’ve had, she happily obliged. Soon enough, the “to be ironed pile” piled up and it was time to break in my new iron.
When I first removed the T-fal Ultraglide Easycord Iron out of the box, I admired its design and immediately took notice of the pivoting cord. I read through the manual just to familiarize myself with the iron’s functions and features before putting it to use.
Easycord System:
One of my biggest frustrations with our old iron {which was from The Mister’s college days and needed to be laid to rest… R.I.P} would be when I ironed my favorite tablecloth. The cord would constantly get caught underneath while I slid a new section up to iron. The pivoting cord with the T-fal Ultraglide Easycord Iron allows me to iron without the cord re-wrinkling fabric, it stays out of my way and lets me finish the chore quickly.
Steam:
Not only can I quickly steam clothes laying flat on the ironing board, but with the vertical steam I am able to steam clothes as they hang! Often times I pull a dress or a skirt out of my overloaded closet and have to re-iron it {or throw it in the dryer – tsk! what a waste of energy}. But now I can simply use my iron’s vertical steam ability and, in just a few minutes, freshen them up!
Other features:
●○ nonstick ceramic soleplate, which enables the iron to glide effortlessly over garments
●○ auto shutoff {after 30 seconds if left on its soleplate & 8 minutes if left on its heel rest}
●○ spray mist and steam burst functions
●○ anti drip
●○ fully heats in just 90 seconds!
●○ self cleaning
Here are some helpful ironing tips from T-fal Linen Care:
1. Ironing will be easier and faster if the items are not too dry. If they are, lightly spray with water ten minutes before ironing.
2. Make sure to sort out the laundry accordingly – read the labels carefully so that you can easily work up from the coolest to the hottest temperature and avoid ruining a garment.
3. Test whether your water is hard by putting a spoonful of soap flakes into a bowl with two cups of water and mix vigorously. If bubbles appear that means your water is soft. (Fun fact: T-fal steam irons and stations are specially designed to use tap water- their construction resists scale, whatever the water hardness.)
4. If you are unsure about ironing a particular item, test a hidden part of the fabric with the tip of your iron.
5. When ironing delicate or dark items, place a clean towel or press cloth between fabric and iron. For black dresses or trousers, use the steam setting with the iron touching the fabric.
Buy:
Considering how much I loathe ironing, I wouldn’t have imagined myself to be the type to rave over an iron. But the T-fal Ultraglide Easycord Iron has made it so I actually dread ironing less! If you feel the same way about ironing as I do, you may just need a new iron. *wink* You can purchase a blue T-fal Ultraglide Easycord Iron at Target.com – though I have also seen it on Amazon with more color options. Regular price is $39.99 – it may seem like a steep price for an iron, but when I consider the quality, smart design, and number of features? It is worth every penny!

I thought this post was going to be about frying pans because T-Fal makes great frying pans. But I see that T-fal makes irons. I really like this brand and color of an iron. It looks like it really works good and sells at Target for $39.99, which is a great price. I will have to take a look at them!

Nice that it doesn’t drip. I got burned with my last iron-dripped hot water on my hands.

That is a nifty iron! I love the pivotal cord.

When I think of T-Fal I think of pots and pans. Didn’t realize they made irons. I need a new one so bad as I have to iron my hubby dress shirts for work and they have to be starched on top of it. I think $40 is a great price. I am going to bookmark for Christmas!

I just found out some of my friends don’t even own an iron. (I can tell – hee hee….) Perhaps I should give them a subtle hint and point them at this review. 🙂
