When I was young (24 to be exact), I had a baby boy. I was a single mother, and aside from the help from my parents, I was doing it all myself. My son’s father was not very active in his life and shortly after I gave birth, he told me I would never find someone who would want to date me, since I had a kid. I didn’t know what to believe. What if he was right?
When my son was 14 months old, my best friend introduced me to someone special. She worked as a clerk at the local police department, and she had been telling me about this one officer who was “just my type”. I arrived at the department to meet him, and he seemed really nice! We agreed to go out on a date the following Saturday, and we had a fantastic time. He was a real gentleman (unlike other guys I had dated), and I was very excited that he seemed to like me too.
I decided on our first date to go ahead and tell him about my son. I figured that I didn’t want to fall for him, and have him leave once he found out. I wasn’t sure how to approach the subject, so I finally asked him, “Do you like kids?”. He said that he did, but didn’t really know what to do with them (this made me giggle). Then it happened. I told him I had a 14 month old son. He didn’t flinch. He simply said, “well, just show me what to do!”.
We had our second date the next day (Sunday), which happened to be Mother’s Day. We were going to go for a motorcycle ride. When he arrived, I flung the front door open and there he was, pulling a dozen red roses out from under his leather jacket. He handed them to me, and said, “Happy Mother’s Day!”. I was speechless. And smitten. I knew right then and there that I wanted to marry this man.
We have been together for 22 years now, and married for 19 of them. Through the years, he has shown me the same thoughtfulness and kindness. He always has my best interest at heart, and I have his. We do not argue (though we do disagree sometimes). He is my soulmate and I don’t know what I would do without him. He is the love of my life.
I have a few gift ideas in mind for him for Valentine’s Day. He is truly deserving of the best of everything. Of course, I always look for the best prices on everything (it’s something we both do!), so I will be keeping my eye out for Valentine’s Day Deals wherever I go.
He deserves something special, for being such a wonderful husband and father. What ideas do you have for Valentine’s Day gifts for husbands?
