As we wrap up the opening week and now get into the full swing of baseball season, almost all of us have officially gotten into that good ol’ baseball spirit. Breaking out the jerseys, those favorite ball caps, tossing a ball around in the warm sunshine; baseball season is finally back, and in full swing! And for me, well, I could not be more excited!
As our little one starts his own baseball season, this year he is finally catching that fan fever. Having been born into a baseball family, both of our children have donned sportswear since birth. They’ve received baseball related gifts, have their own mini mitts and baseballs galore, and enjoy spontaneous backyard games using trees as bases, the works. For us, baseball is so much more than “just a game,” it is a way of life.
To celebrate our son’s start of his own baseball adventure, I wanted to get him a little something to honor the occasion. Normally, I’d opt for a personalized, hat, ball, bat, or something of the same likeness. So, when I was presented the opportunity to check out a pretty amazing little product, I jumped at the chance. Meet Baby Bats.
Baby Bats is a wonderful branch off of the highly popular Texas Timber baseball bat company. After noticing the public’s want for personalized bats and, in turn, bats meant for baby gifts, they offered up their own twist on the idea. Having seen many competitors offer similar products, they decided to take their own version one step further toward making it truly personalized.
The difference? The Texas Timber Baby Bats not only possess the engraving of a child’s name and birth information, but they are also cut to the exact length of the child when born.
We personally have a plethora of customized items for each of our children – baby books, growth charts, piggy banks, etc. – but I have yet to see anything to even compare to the level of sheer ingenuity that Baby Bats holds. Plus, as a baseball fan, you cannot get much better than this. Case in point, we have a photograph of one of our children alongside the World Series trophy. This, along with many other baseball memorabilia items, sits on display in our home. Side by side and row by row sat a cute little collection of meaningful items, baseballs, photographs, and more, but it was never quite complete… until now.
Having had numerous items representing teams, players, family members, and even ourselves, everything had its own story that’d forever live on that shelf alone. Surely, a great story is always a good thing but, with Baby Bats, we now have so much more than that.
Each bat features a child’s name, their birthdate, and their birth information such as time born and weight but, what sets them apart is that each bat is custom cut to match each individual child’s length at birth. So, not only is it a great decorative piece with one heck of a story to tell but it is a constant reminder, a daily visual, and even a comparison to show just how much your child has grown.
Made right here in the USA, Texas Timber Baby Bats are made of real wood harvested from the Catskill Mountains and are available in a variety of finishes – natural (seen here), pecan, cherry, and their newest option of wheat.
Once you’ve chosen a finish color, from there, you can go ahead and customize the bat for your child. Simply enter their name and birthdate in the respective spaces and select their time of birth, weight and length from the dropdown menus on the website. One thing that I must point out is that the name length can only be a maximum of twenty-five characters so this might cause an issue if your little one has a lengthy name. However, you could always go the initial route and take a page out of the A.J. Burnett (Philadelphia Phillies) or C.C. Sabathia (New York Yankees) books. For our own children, both of their names fit perfectly and their bats came out amazingly.
It’s been incredible having these tiny little Baby Bats on display to be able to see every day and remember just how small my babies once were. It is no secret that time flies by all too quickly, especially with little ones, and children really do grow up right before our eyes. It still feels like just yesterday I was bringing them home for the first time but, as I look at them now, walking, talking, running, doing schoolwork, and even practicing for their own baseball games, it’s quite obvious how much they’ve grown. To them, they enjoy the bats to see how big they’re getting but for me, these bats remind me that despite how much they’ve grown since birth, my babies will always be my little babies.
Whether it is something that you’d like to have for your own children or something that you’d like to gift to a friend or family member, the Texas Timber Baby Bats surely do make for a marvelous heirloom. I’m already half tempted to get matching ones for the two of us in addition to the ones that our boys now have.

Our little sports crazy grandson is so because of his sports crazy daddy…and he roots for ALL baseball and refs for local teams. I’d have to say they watch all the Brewers games, and lil’ guy is only 2. but daddy’s heart might be with the Cubs. Mine is our hometown high school team my son is on, so hopefully most of the family and lil’ ones too will be rooting for the Spartans.
