I love it when a company does something for the betterment of others without a bunch of self-promotion. I’m talking about the Office Depot Foundation.
The beginning of the school year shopping is one of my favorite things to do. New pencils, erasers and backpacks – it’s fun to pick out the new with my kiddos. Like most children, they look forward to the beginning of the new school year. Not all families can afford the basic school essentials for their children.
That’s where the Office Depot Foundation comes in. This year the Foundation is donating 350,000 sackpacks to children in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and a number of other countries through its National Backpack Program. This is the 14th year of the program and by the end of the year, Office Depot and Office Depot Foundation will have given away more than 3.3 million backpacks and sackpacks. Amazing!
We received two sackpacks (which I’m donating to the local Rape and Domestic Abuse). The sackpacks come in seven bright and colorful designs, new for 2014. The designs appeal to children. This style of sackpack is super popular, I see kids with them all the time.
Each one contains a zippered pouch that includes a pen, pencil, pencil sharpener, eraser, six inch ruler and four crayons.
All of this without any logos or branding from Office Depot! By keeping off any logos or branding there is no risk of being stigmatized by something that clearly identifies it as an act of charity. Kudos to the Office Depot Foundation for their thoughtfulness!
