This is a review that is the most exciting to write! In this household, we do a family fun night every Friday evening. We’ll either watch a movie together, play games, or other completely unique ideas that we can manage to come up with. Well, with so many little ones, it’s a struggle to find a game that truly makes sense to them and they can grasp and really enjoy. Now, we already knew we loved Blue Orange Games because I did a review for their Spot It! games last year and we also received their Gobblet Gobblers as a gift not long ago!
The main purpose of this review is to talk about the new game Wink that I received, among others, but I have to at least mention our Gobblet Gobblers because I love it so much! Gobblet Gobblers is a perfect game for any age and it’s a really cool take on the simple game of tic-tac-toe! You can choose a space to put your piece but a piece bigger than you can eat you up, stealing your space. We thought that was such a great spin on a classic game that I had to tell you about it, especially if you have young kids and want to start doing board games with them!
For my review, I received Wink, Color Clash, Thumbs Up, and Crab Stack. In the game of Wink, you place these cute little face cards down and you pass out a deck of cards to the players. You will choose a card that you don’t have from the bunch that are laying out, say the guy with the funny mustache, and say that you want the match to him. If another player has that match, they have to try and discreetly get your attention by winking (or some other gesture that might be easier for players, we opted for a “kissy face” since all of our kids can do that). If someone catches you gesturing that you have that card, they can call you out on it and steal away your points.
Our family absolutely loved this game and there was so much laughter to be heard in our house, which is exactly what you want for a family game! Now, the age recommendation is 8 and up but we were able to play with our almost 4 and 5 year olds with a little help so I do want to put it out there that with a little assistance, this game isn’t too hard to grasp for younger kids. My husband kept remarking that Wink ($14.99) would absolutely be a hilarious game to play with adults too. We’re one of those couples that like to do board games with our dinner parties because that’s awesome.
Now, of course, we loved the other games we received too. Crab Stack ($24.99) is a little similar to Gobblet Gobblers in that bigger pieces get to take over smaller pieces but it’s also kind of like checkers a little bit, my husband says (I’ve never played checkers). Even my two year old mostly understood how to play Crab Stack, actually, and we all had a lot of fun with it! Sorry for all of the shadow in our photo, it’s really difficult to get photos during all of the action with my competitive family!
Color Clash ($14.99) reminds me of a brain exercise app that I play. It really challenges the mind because the cards will have a chameleon in one color, a color word, and then the font color of the word, and they may not match up! So you may have a red chameleon with the word “purple” written in yellow and there are various ways to play the game. This is a blast!
Thumbs Up ($14.99) is one that is a great learning tool for my kids. They know all of their colors and numbers for the most part, except my toddler, so teaching them how to read the sequencing on the cards is actually really educational! It’s recommended for ages 6 and older and my five and almost eight year old do understand and enjoying playing this together!
Blue Orange Games might very well be our favorite board game company. When my husband and I discussed Christmas gifts and stocking up on our board game collection, I immediately recommended that we check out the Blue Orange Games website first and see which ones would work best for us. They really know how to make a unique family game and most of the games have cool variations that can change things up! They’re also pretty affordable games, especially for such a large family like us! Two thumbs WAY up for Wink and Blue Orange Games in general!
Buy: You can purchase Wink on Amazon, and also other Blue Orange Games either online or using their store locator.
