With the rush of Halloween officially over, the winter holiday season has certainly kicked off once more. While I am typically one of those “can we at least wait until Thanksgiving is over” kind of folks, there is one particular Christmastime tradition that I don’t mind having start so soon. Of course, that would be the yearly ooh-ing and aah-ing over the much anticipated Toys“R”Us holiday book.

Toys"R"Us Logo
This year, the Toys “R” Us holiday book is, well, awesome! No, really, it is officially The Great Big Toys“R”Us Book of Awesome and even that is an understatement. Just take a look:

The Great Big Toys"R"Us Book of Awesome
I can vividly remember my own childhood days of waiting by the mailbox for this book to come so that my brother and I could sprawl out on the living room floor, crayons in hand, and let our imaginations run wild as we’d circle and check off all of the items for our dream wish lists. Although we may have been a bit gluttonous with our hasty markings, it wasn’t so much about the would-be physical gifts as it was about the time spent with our noses shoved in the books. It was fun; fun to imagine, to circle, to mark, to compare, fun to dream.

Now that the tables have turned and I am witnessing this excitement from a parent’s perspective, I find myself enjoying the kids’ own enjoyment. Now it is they who wait alongside the mailbox and greet the mailperson anticipating the arrival of the most coveted book of the season. And when the day finally comes where the mail truck is just as magical as Santa’s sleigh, delivering all of the goodness that is to be found within the Toys“R”Us holiday catalog, it is amazing to see the kids’ faces light up with such joy. Gripping the mail with all of their might and running full speed back into the house, that moment is when our holiday season officially begins.

Straight for their crayons and markers they’ll run.
The holiday season has officially begun.
So clear off the table and pull up a seat,
Because the excitement is flowing from their heads to their feet.
With smiles so big and their hearts so full of cheer,
We celebrate; the Toys“R”Us book is finally here!

While the kids could certainly spew out a boatload of adjectives to describe it, this year “awesome” is most certainly the top choice. The Great Big Toys“R”Us Book of Awesome is exactly that and it features so much more than the toys alone.

New this year, the company has introduced an augmented reality experience through which kids are able to bring their favorite toys from The Great Big Toys“R”Us Book of Awesome to life within the Geoffrey Shuffle app game.

It is no secret that technology plays a huge part in our everyday lives and with so many virtual displays now available I am excited to see that Toys“R”Us has included such a feature within this year’s holiday book. Through this feature, kids can truly get a feel for the actual products they’re looking at by zooming-in, spinning, walking around the pages, and checking out the intricate details that can only be seen through the app. It’s not just a task of flipping through the physical pages anymore. The book itself has become a game of sorts and it was designed with children in mind. Simply open the app on your smartphone or tablet and hold it over one of the pages. The game will instantly begin loading and your kids will enter a whole new world of “awesome” fun. Explore the book and see if you can find the hidden Geoffrey and other kid-favorite licensed characters.

In addition to having a blast playing with the Geoffrey Shuffle app (available for iOS and Android devices), you’ll have the amazing opportunity to win big this holiday season through the Geoffrey’s Awesome Sweepstakes!

As if the holidays weren’t reason enough to celebrate, one lucky grand prize winner will receive either a $2,000 Toys“R”Us gift card or a 5-day Beaches Resort Luxury Included Family Vacation in the Caribbean! And no worries if you’re not feeling like the super lucky type because there will be daily prizes of $100 Toys“R”Us gift cards for each day throughout the sweepstakes!

Of course, with all of the fun that is to be had though the app portion of the book, we cannot negate the fact that a simple act of putting a marker to the pages of all things awesome is just about as “awesome” as you can get. This year, much like every other, that is exactly what we did. From one page to the next, checking off, circling, marking, and dreaming.

“Ooh, Mommy, look at this!”

“Hey, Dad, this is SO cool! Wow!”

“Mom! Mom! Mom! Do you think Santa could bring my brother this?”

“Daddy! This would be so much fun. You know, to play. We could do it together!”

There were so many exclamations and busts of sheer delight that I couldn’t possible list them all. However, coincidentally enough, the one word that could be heard rather repetitively was “awesome!” After all, this year’s book is exactly that – The Great Big Toys“R” Us Book of Awesome. And for those of you that may be wondering, yes, it really is full of all things awesome. Just take a look:

The Great Big Toys"R"Us Book of Awesome
While our boys certainly had a field day creating their personal lists for the upcoming winter holidays, I’ve gone ahead and put together a short list of some of my own favorite finds for all ages!

For Babies
The Fisher-Price Bright Beats Dance & Move BeatBo looks to be an amazing amount of fun all rolled up into a brand new friend for baby to play, dance, and move with.

Ages 12-24 Months
I am a huge fan of the Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn toys and, as The Great Big Toys“R” Us Book of Awesome mentions, “awesome is when playtime can take you anywhere.” Allow your little one to explore, laugh, and learn with these fabulous items.

Ages 2-4 Years
The Step2 playhouses are certainly a huge hit with little ones within this age group. A little bit of make-believe goes a long, long way and the possibilities are endless. Kids are sure to have an “awesome” time climbing, sliding, opening doors, peeking through windows, answering phones, serving lunch, and simply playing with their own little homes.

Ages 5-7
Once your little ones hit this age, it’s all about taking charge. They’ve each become their own little person and grabbing hold of the wheel, being in control, and simply enjoying the thrill of life, that’s what it’s all about. For them, I love the vehicle collection that Toys“R”Us offers. Power Wheels is my go to brand and, this year, there are so many style options to choose from. Get rugged with a Jeep, go fancy with a Porsche, head off-road with a Dune Racer, or even ride along with Minnie Mouse!

Ages 8-11
I am the momma bear that is adamant about family time and when your not-so-little kiddos are nearing those pre-teen ages, I’m a huge fan of family game night. Hasbro Games is always a great option for “awesome” games that’ll surely entertain the whole family. This year, I’ll personally be picking up the all new Pie Face Game because, after all, who doesn’t love a good pie in the face?! One… two… three… PIE!

Ages 12-14
When I was younger, we neighborhood kids would often spend our time battling one another in various “fights” with water balloons, silly string, and foam darts. I still remember when I received my very first Nerf toy. For these kids, it’s all about the thrill of the game. Stock up on some fun Nerf gear and head outside for some wild and wacky play. Now that the brand also offers a pretty-in-pink (and purple) Nerf Rebelle line for the little ladies, you can truly put the age-old gals versus guys to the test. Target practice anyone?

Big Kids (15+)
Some people are surprised that you can shop at Toys“R”Us for the big kids on your list. However, there is one thing that you must remember about the awesomeness of Toys“R”Us – it is the place “where a kid can be a kid.” Put all else aside for a minute and just let them be kids. For the older age group, electronics are always a huge hit. This year, there were a few that caught my eye. The Meccano MeccaNoid is perfect for the tech type, Guitar Hero Live is perfect for those with an inner rockstar, and you can’t go wrong with the XBOX One for the gamers.

As you can see, Toys“R”Us is certainly THE place to shop for all of your gifting needs this holiday season. Not only is there truly something for everyone but the entire store (online and at your nearest retail location) is full of all things amazing… grand… splendid… remarkable… tremendous… and yes, awesome. So if you want to hear all of the ooh-ing and aah-ing over amazing holiday gifts, start by putting the “awe” in “awesome” with Toys“R”Us.

You pick up your own copy of The Great Big Toys“R” Us Book of Awesome (available at Toys“R”Us retail locations) so that you too can take a peek at the latest and greatest of the holiday season, try your hand at the Geoffrey Shuffle app, create your own holiday wish list, take advantage of great sale pricing and holiday promotions (valid through November 21st), enter the Geoffrey’s Awesome Sweepstakes, and much more!
