GrowUpSmart Chess Set
In my house, we love playing board games of all types. It’s not uncommon to find us having a weekly family game night. It’s sometimes hard to find a game that we can all play, though since there are two adults and three kids that are spaced out in age (17, 14, 8). That just means that sometimes we buy games that only a couple of us will play (either because of age or interest) or sometimes have to play games that other people are more interested in than we are.
One game that the boys (17 & 8) like to play together is chess. Their dad taught them and he tried to teach me when we were still married but I can honestly say that I could never get my mind around the game and my 14-year-old daughter feels the same way.
When I told the boys that we were going to review a chess board from GrowUpSmart {affiliate}, they were very excited. It was great to see a game that I knew that they could both play together, despite the large age difference.
The GrowUpSmart Premium Chess Set comes with a beautiful 16″ board (made from New Zealand pine with a basswood & walnut veneer top) that has a velvet-lined compartment for all of the pieces and folds so you can store it easily. Once the board is opened, you can see letters running across the bottom and numbers running down the sides. This helps to easily and quickly identify game moves. I love that the premium set comes with extra pieces (one of each, so 12 extra total) because how often can you not play a game anymore because you’re missing a piece or two? You’ll also get a soft bag to protect the game board against scratches during storage and transportation, plus an instruction manual & access to an online beginner’s video course that teaches you how to play (which is perfect for people like me who have NO idea what they’re doing!)
The boys are having a great time with their new chess board and I am even starting to watch the video course so I can play with them too!
