Just before I was offered the job to contribute at Eighty MPH Mom, I had given up on my own blog. I felt like I didn’t really know how to blog so I would pour my heart out but feel like I was talking to myself. Shortly after I closed everything up, Randi reached out to me to become a writer for Eighty MPH Mom. It was exactly what I needed, a position that allowed me to improve my skills and better my blogging abilities.
I could never have imagined what a benefit this journey would be for me! Not only had I gained a renewed love for blogging, but the wealth of knowledge bestowed upon me by the writers at Eighty MPH Mom, especially Jen and Randi, was everything I needed to feel confident in what I was doing. In my time at Eighty, I learned the ins and outs of blogging and I felt welcomed into a community. Jen and Randi became both my mentors and my friends. Jen sent me Christmas cards and a welcome for my baby, chatting and making jokes with me when times called for a little laughter! It was so sweet and everybody should have a boss that loves them like that!
I had the opportunity to work with some amazing companies and try out some of the coolest products. Switchmate where I could sit on my booty while I turn the lights off, yes please. I still use my Vanity Planet Tame Hair Straightener nearly every day. The kids can’t get over the Range Rover they got for Christmas. My four year old is wearing her favorite FabKids dress as I type this and some of my prettiest dresses ever are from Light in the Box! Honestly, the list of awesome products are endless. I sleep on my Novosbed every night and I am obsessed with my Cricut Explore, so those might be my favorite if I had to choose.
You might be asking yourself after all of these things, the wisdom, the sisterhood, the cool products, why would I leave? Blogging is such a time consuming thing and if you’re not a blogger, I’m not sure if you will understand. The time it takes to put together a blog post isn’t too terrible but the time it takes to build your own blog up from the ground, as Jen has done here with Eighty MPH Mom, is astronomical. There is so much work at the beginning and there is little to show for it as you’re starting out. So here I am, trying to make The Quirky Mom Next Door into something worth writing home about and to do that, I need all of my free time which, with five kids and husband, isn’t much free time to begin with.
So here I go, spreading my wings and trying to fly away on my own. It’s a bittersweet moment as I look back, missing all of you guys and the wonderful women at Eighty MPH Mom, but I’m determined to show the world everything that I’ve learned and all I can do! I hope you’ll cheer me on over at The Quirky Mom Next Door and you be kind to these darling gals, you have no idea how hard they’re working behind the scenes! Stay beautiful and follow your dreams, no matter what anyone thinks, Eighty fans!
