Introducing Kiersten, Type A Housewife

Hello! I am Kiersten from Type A Housewife!  When Jennifer emailed me yesterday to let me know she wanted me to be a contributor to Eighty MPH Mom, I kind of felt like a reporter from a small town newspaper being asked to write for the New York Times. Exciting? YES! Terrifying? Slightly.

I’m fairly new to the blogging world (so new that I don’t have an awesome looking picture of myself for bloggy-type things–instead, here’s one of me with a sign that says “ramen makes us happy”), although I had the intention to start a blog for a long time. Writing is something that I have always enjoyed–my problem was that I didn’t know what to write about if I started a blog. Then, after being injured in a car accident, I started entering blog giveaways out of boredom. From there, I began to read the blogs I was entering giveaways on and soon the idea for The Type A Housewife was born. Even once I had the idea in my head, though, I kept talking myself out of actually starting the blog–“No one will read it,” “It will take me years to get half the followers other blogs have,” etc.

Finally, on January 1st, I took the plunge and wrote my first post. I’m still trying to figure out the direction I want to take with The Type A Housewife–I love writing posts about cooking and coupons, but it’s also fun to be able to write rant-y entries about Beverly Hills, 90210 or reality TV. But hey, it’s my blog, so I can do what I want with it!

Oh, so maybe you want to know a little bit about me? Well, I’m married to my husband of 4 years and we live in Wisconsin with our 4 cats, Frida, Aikku, Miso, and Mochi. We don’t have human children yet, but we are working on it. I have a master’s degree in information science and I work from home doing search engine evaluation–I also pick up consulting work in taxonomy and do some freelance writing on the side. I absolutely love working at home and I don’t think I could ever go back to a traditional job! If you read my blog, you already know that I’m passionate about food and cooking. I also love to garden, read (everything from tabloids to books about post-colonial Africa), and do crafty things. And, as you might suspect from the name The Type A Housewife, I’m a bit fanatical about cleaning, organization, and having everything just so. But I’m not a jerk about it!

The reason I love Eighty MPH Mom is because it’s real. The tone that Jennifer uses in her writing is exactly what I aim for in my own blog, The Type A Housewife. For me, it’s a love of writing that really drew me to the blogging world and I hope this comes through in my posts on Eighty MPH Mom. I look forward to getting to know you all and I hope you will enjoy getting to know me as well!
