National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day with Nielsen-Massey Vanilla!

There is nothing in the world quite like a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie, the way they’re warm, soft and gooey in the center. This Thursday, May 15th, it’s National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day and Nielsen-Massey sent me some Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract and a recipe to make my own delightful cookies from scratch!

Nielsen-Massey sent along several different ideas to change up your celebratory cookies that I thought were pretty brilliant, actually. Some of those yummy ideas included adding different types of chocolate chips like dark, white, or both, adding nuts like pecans or walnuts, or making sandwiches with frosting or ice cream. I decided to use some spring-colored chocolate chips for mine!

Let me share with you the recipe that helped me to achieve my delicious chocolate chip cookies:

Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 ½ c. butter, softened
1 ¼ c. white sugar
1 ¼ c. brown sugar
1 T. Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract
2 eggs
4 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 ¾ tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1-12 oz. pkg. semisweet chocolate chips. (2 c.)
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix butter, sugars, vanilla and eggs in large bowl. Stir in flour, soda, salt, baking powder and cream of tartar. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop with a #40 scoop (looks like a metal mini ice cream scoop) or a rounded measuring tablespoonful about 2 inches apart onto an ungreased insulated baking sheet. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until light brown. Cool slightly: remove from baking sheet. Cool on wire rack. Makes about 4 dozen crackly, chewy-crispy bakery-style cookies. They are wonderful!

These chocolate chip cookies were so good and what was left after I enjoyed several fresh out of the oven was consumed by my sweet-hungry husband and kids! We’ll be making another batch of this chocolatey goodness to celebrate National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day! It’ll be a tasty #NMVCCCDay !

  1. I make a zucchini bread and it calls for a few tbsp of vanilla and this would make it taste even better.

  2. vanilla is my favorite flavoring, so i’d use it in all my baking – cookies, cakes brownies, etc and i’d use it in my smoothies too.

  3. I think this would help make an awesome vanilla malted. I would also use it in my sugar cookies, I really do think good vanilla makes a big difference in the way your cookies taste.

  4. Chocolate Chip Cookies are top on my list of things to bake, but also perhaps some Vanilla Swiss Meringue Buttercream to top some devil’s food cake.

  5. I would use the vanilla in my mom’s fudge recipe. It is awesome as is, but this vanilla might make it even better.

  6. Vanilla is my one of my favorite flavorings right after maple so I’d use it in almost everything but I guess I’d use it in sugar cookies.

  7. I would also love to make chocolate chip cookies! My mouth is watering right now, lol!

  8. I would save this fabulous vanilla for things where the vanilla flavor shines through, like vanilla ice cream and vanilla spritz cookies.

  9. What would I make? the real question is what wouldn’t I make? hahaha We love to eat, doesn’t everyone? Vanilla is put in so many things, from the chocochip cookies, to oatmeal cookies, to Banana Bread, to fruit crunches.. oh baking never ends and the bottles of vanilla do! So I hope I win this.

  10. I would bake White Chocolate Maple Walnut Blondies with the Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract.
