How to Outsmart Phone Menus

Annoying Phone Menus

outsmarting phone menus, how to bypass phone menus,

I just discovered this and wanted to share it with you  – in case you were unaware.

You know when you call a business or other place and get the eternal menus – chock full of choices?  Press “1” for this, Press “2” for that, Press “3” if you’re an idiot, etc.  I just called the DMV and went through about three menus (each one full of options), yet none of the options were to talk to somebody!  None of their options matched what I needed to know and I got tired of going through more and more menus at every step.  I am simply not this patient.

How do  you bypass all of this if you just want to talk to someone?  Very simple.

This word: ‘jisdguwehrjokjmhjeaqujhpuigrhea’

Or if you prefer you can say ‘boogityboogityboogity’

Of course, if it makes you feel better, you can cuss them out – because it’s just a machine!

You may have to repeat something – anything not understandable, 3 or 4 times but eventually the system will realize it will never “get” what you are trying to tell it you and then you will hear ‘We are having trouble understanding you, please wait for an operator’ or something similar.

Ahhhh much better.  It really is gratifying – try it sometime! I no longer deal with phone menus 🙂

  1. FUNNY
are you trying to make me break ribs to go w my knee lol?!
That is oh, I just love it, thx for the pick-me-up, I am laughing so hard, that's my PT for the day!!!!

  2. I LOVE it!!!! I was trying zero, zero, zero, etc. and sometimes that works and sometimes not. I'm going with your method! You're too funny.

  3. Too funny. Kids screaming in the background usually throws them off, too. Or pressing 0 eleventy billion times!

  4. O.K. that is just too funny! I never even thought of doing that! Sadly we are getting ready to put one of these in at work and are trying to figure out how to not get people to keep pressing 0!

  5. I love the picture. Too funny. I usually smash "0" until it tells me to hold for an operator. Of course sometimes that backfires and it hangs up on me. 🙁

That is too funny. I have used this website for a few years now its GETHUMAN.COM and it tells you how to get around each companies automated phone systems and get right to a human, its a life saver.

Love it! I've had this happen to me a few times after I'd started calling it some names 🙂 I'm going to try your method next time and just jump right to the name calling!

LOL…you're hilarious. I usually hit 0 over and over until they connect me with a real person to talk to.

  9. I know what you mean. I've gone in circles too, can't remember what it was, but it was frustrating. I needed to talk to someone and the menu never gave me that option. I'll try your suggestion next time. Thanks!

  10. I've found myself cursing into the phone on occasion and yes, that really works. The disembodied voice usually comes up saying that you were not understood and that a cs person will be right with you. LOL.

This came at the perfect time…I have been trying to get a hold of a company that gave us a late charge BEFORE they even sent us a bill. I have called and called and cant TALK to a person. I am really pretty surprised they DIDNT send me through with the SU$( Yu3 H&L( YI#EK KLI# IO#O(IDHHJ# HIHI #EI#I !!!!! I said into the phone…but I was saying it with gritted teeth and a snarl, so probably didnt hear it. Next time I will carefully select my words from MY menu and say it loud and clear!! LOL

    thanks Jen!

I have been known to mumble obscenities into the phone with these phone calls.
But yadda, blah, yadda yadda yadda, blah blah blah will sometimes work.

While Rose's suggestion of Yada, yada, blah, blah, blah is cute, I really like the boogityboogityboogity you suggested.
You make me laugh, Jen!! 🙂

  14. This is a really cool tip! I'm going to have to try this next time I get a long string of menus. 🙂

There's also a website where you can look up a number to talk to a real live person. Hang on…I think I've got it bookmarked somewhere…

Here: It's a very handy site, though it doesn't cover every company.

All right, I'm trying this next time, because I have had bad phone-menu experiences lately. The only problem is some places will hang up on you if they can't figure you out. I hate that!

  16. something similar happened when my baby started babbling in response to my attempts to get through a menu, but I never thought of doing it on purpose! Thanks!

  17. Haha, nice!

I discovered that sometimes you can just stay silent. It’s maybe not as satisfying, but often it works! I taught the trick to my grandpa for dealing with the phone company, and probably helped with his blood pressure. 🙂
