Toyota Sienna Design and Drive 2010-Calty Design Research: Part I

As you may or may not know, I was recently invited to the Toyota Sienna event in Laguna Beach. I was so excited about learning about the new 2011 Toyota Sienna, and I am looking forward to sharing all that I learned with you! It will take two posts at least to cover this, because there is just so much to tell you about!

Last Tuesday, I flew to Orange County (yes the real O.C.!), and was driven to the fabulous Surf and Sand Resort in Laguna Beach, to meet with a few other bloggers, and the wonderful folks from Golin Harris and the Calty Design Studio.  Also at this event were my good friends Kari (A Giveaway Addicted Mommy), Amanda (Mommy Mandy) and Valerie (Sweeps4Bloggers).  These girls are the sweetest and so much fun to hang out with. I was so excited to meet Eileen from Mom Central – she is absolutely hilarious!

I first went to my room to freshen up a bit and was greeted with a very nice room and this view:

I met up with everyone at the reception for drinks and appetizers, then we headed to dinner, which was delicious!  It was really nice to get to meet everyone before our big day the next day.

The following morning, we all met up for breakfast in the Splash Cafe, then we were taken to the Calty Design Research in Newport Beach for our big adventure.  The design studio is absolutely gorgeous…everything is clean, shiny and exciting.  We met the president of Calty Design Research – a very nice man who started our tour by explaining about the various aspects of design that take place there.  It was fascinating – and I think we were all a little shocked to hear about everything that goes into designing a car.  We saw a concept car (and pictures of several of others!), and we read and learned about the history of Toyota and Calty Design Research.  We also were allowed to touch and feel the materials displayed down the long hallway.  This was fun, as it contained paint colors and interiors used in Toyota vehicles way back when!  Talk about a blast from he past!  We then watched a video that explained the use of clay and other techniques they use to create concept cars.

Next, we went outside to enjoy the beautiful weather, and to see a couple of other Toyota models:

And finally – the  2011 Toyota Sienna up close and personal. YOWZA!  Now, I am a sports car kind of girl (hence my blog header and title).  I have had my share of fast and fun cars in the past – my favorite being my Toyota Supra – so have to admit, I wasn’t quite sure how excited I would be about a minivan.  There was no need to worry. My mouth dropped when I saw this beauty!  Outside were several Siennas for us to admire – and boy, did we!

I have a 2007 Toyota Camry which I absolutely love.  I remember the first time I saw the body style of my Camry, I was smitten with the front end.  The headlights look sporty and dare I say, even sexy.  The front end of the Sienna reminded me of the Camry front end.

I was previously not a big fan of minivans – I have never even owned one, but the minute I saw the 2011 Sienna, I knew this was definitely something I would be proud to own and drive.  Not only is it just plain beautiful and full to the brim with wonderful features, but it looks and feels a bit like a sports car. You might want to go and grab a tissue before you read Part II of my Sienna post – it is definitely drool worthy.

To conclude this post,  I wanted to tell you about the “Small Talk” contest sponsored by Toyota Sienna and presented by the one and only Ryan Seacrest.  Now this sounds fun! From now until June 20, “Small Talk” invites you to capture hilarious and heartwarming clips from your family’s most outspoken young members. All you need to do is visit the Small Talk You Tube Channel and upload a video of your child answering one or more questions from the list featured on the “Small Talk” channel. The top entries will be featured online and the YouTube community will vote for their favorite.

If you love sharing your kid’s most memorable and funny moments, now is the time to record some of Small Talk and share it with the world. The results could be very rewarding! Again, the deadline to submit your video is June 20.

Sounds like fun! Supras are great cars! I used to help a guy do auto detailing and he always had the 80's models.

  6. WOW. Looks like it was alot of fun and cool cars to look at also. We have a minvan but not a Toyota but that is a pretty sporty minivan. LOL. Can't believe I just said that.

  7. We have always bought Toyota’s. But I’m not thrilled with their new commercials on television..The ones with the kid that has the parents with a cool car, and then the kid with the parents with an older one..
Maybe I’m being a prude, but to me they come of as..If your parents cannot afford a new shiney car then your not cool enough and we have enough of that as it is in schools.
