Arm & Hammer baking soda

how-often-do-i-change-baking-soda-in-refrigerator

In my last Switch & Save Challenge post, I mentioned several ways that I have been using Arm & Hammer Baking Soda.  I even showed pictures of how to clean floors with baking soda, and grout lines too.  I also found another neat use for it!  We have a small fountain in our front yard, and around it are cement pavers.  Of course they get kind of “gunky”, so I have found that just by using a sponge, a little water and baking soda, I can scrub lightly and clean not only the pavers, but the fountain as well!  I simply hose it down when I am done, and it really brightens up that corner of my yard.

I promised to tell you about a few other ways that Arm & Hammer Baking Soda can be used to make your life a little easier (and save money at the same time).

natural-cleaners

Here are few tips (secrets…shhhh) on Arm & Hammer Baking Soda uses:

Laundry: You can use it in your laundry to boost your detergent’s whitening power. Simply add a cup of baking soda to your wash! This will also enhance the freshness of clean laundry.

Freshen Carpets: Sprinkle baking soda generously on your carpets (don’t forget the area rugs) about 15 minutes before you are ready to vacuum. Vacuum like you normally would, and voila – you have a super clean and fresh carpet!

Cleaning Fruits and Veggies: Blech – the “waxy” stuff on fruits and vegetables are pretty gross. You can remove the wax from your produce by sprinkling baking soda on a vegetable brush and scrub gently. (I absolutely love this idea, and never would have thought of it).

Garbage Cans: Kitchen and bathroom garbage cans tend to get a little “ripe” between changes, but by sprinkling Arm & Hammer baking soda in the garbage cans, you can eliminate those nasty odors.

I have been keeping a box of Arm & Hammer baking soda in my refrigerator for years {well not the same box, but you get the point}, and I really do think it keeps my refrigerator fresh and free from food odors.  Please pardon the mess in the refrigerator – I had just finished unloading groceries when I took this picture.

I really love how there is a place on the side of the box to fill in the date that the box should be changed. As we all know, time flies and it is hard to keep track of things like this.  Oh how I wish that everything in life had a “fill-in” date 🙂

One other thing I use baking soda for is the cat litter boxes.  When I change the boxes, and rinse them, they still don’t seem clean.  I either sprinkle baking soda in the box under the liner, or sometimes I even put on rubber gloves and scrub the bottom.  It makes a huge difference in keeping my home odor free.  Oh, and don’t worry, I will spare you pictures of the litter boxes – you can thank me later…

The possibilities are endless, really.  I cannot think of another product that is as versatile as Arm & Hammer baking soda.  I will let you know what else I come up with in my next two posts!

Good news for you!  I have yet ANOTHER $25 Visa gift card to give away to one lucky reader, thanks to Arm & Hammer!

  31. My kids started going to the dentist for regular checkups & Cleanings when they were about 2-3 yrs old, & they havent had any cavities yet, (both are grown adults now) we always insisted they brush several times/per day plus before bed and they were really good about it and still are, but it might have something to do with my husband being a fanatic about his teeth & his brushing 8 times per day (or more) so they’ve had a good teacher early on, they drink lots of water instead of pop, my son actually prefers naturally sweetened juices over carbonated drinks which is better, we are constantly stocked up on tooth brushes too and everyone changes them at least monthly, more often if sick and we all use Listerine daily which is great for maintaining healthy gums and preventing gingivitis
