Have you ever dated somebody and their last name just…well just…yuck? Please don’t think I’m petty here, because I really would have married my husband no matter what his last name was. Or I could have opted to keep my own last name, but I really didn’t want to do that.
I’ve often thought how cool it would be to find “the one” and they just happen to have the same last name as you! That never happened, unfortunately. I really like my maiden name.
I dated several people before I married (*cough*), with a variety of last names. Because it would just be weird to date people who all had the same last name right?
Well, I met this guy at a wedding reception once. We dated a few times but I really wasn’t crazy about him. One day when I was just chillin’, contemplating life’s many mysteries, something downright scary occurred to me. If I married this guy, I would have one jacked-up full name.
His last name was… HENNEFER.
You do the math!
I promptly broke up with him, because as I said I didn’t much like him anyway. Okay, honestly? He skeeved me out just a bit. The above is a true story. Sad? Sure. Really true? Unfortunately, yes.
Have you ever done something like this – put your name and his name together and then run the other way?
*Trust me…if I had really wanted to marry this fella’, I would have come up with something…like used my first and last initial to make my first name “JC” or something. I dunno.

HAHAHAHAH!!!!!!
Well I married the first boy I kissed so luckily he had a good one but MY maiden last name was yucky. But I hear you on the Hennifer!
I had a friend with a not so common last name date someone with the same last name and they SWORE they weren’t related but it was still ew.
That’s hilarious! It makes me think of The Wedding Singer and Julia Gulia!
HAHAHAHA…oh that’s bad!!
Roflmao I love this post! Ok I never broke up with a guy over the last name but I did have a boyfriend who had an icky first name so I picked a different name, based on a different guy I used to date because they looked almost like twins, and called him that name instead!
Well now that is a very clever idea!
Oh my! Yes that would not have gone too well with your name being Jennifer! Haha, too funny!

I’m always thinking about this! Always and I’m glad my husband have a normal name!
I still think about very long long names and wonder how I’d pronounce it without messing up. I figured I’d just stick to the first name.
But yes, not sure how I’d handle someone with a messed up last name. Hello, my name is…WHAT? lol
OH heck no. He was an absolute not the second you learned his last name, but how hilarious that would have been!
Agreed! Jennifer Hennefer. Can you imagine?
That’s hilarious!!! I dated a guy that I hated his first name. That’s not why we broke up, but it was rough during the brief dating period.
LOL that made my day.. too funny
LMAO!!! This is hilarious! I was lucky and married someone who’s last name was better than mine…Scott Lilly…so I took his name because I had always been teased about my last name…Angie Cousins (lol). But I remember this woman that went to my hubby’s church when we were in high school. NO JOKE her name was Ima Hogg. I am NOT joking!!!!! Can you imagine?
Lily is a cute name! I would totally love that too!
thanks…used to be this girl i worked with that would sing my name…angela lilly…she said it was fun to roll off her tongue…hahahaahhah def better than ima hogg! LOL
HA! Oh man, what a heck of a name you’d have had O.o
My mom told us a story of the boy she dated before my dad-I guess they were real serious (dated 9 years), and if they would have got married, hyphenated, her last name would have been Stucka-Coin. LOL
I mean, they wouldn’t have had to hyphenate, but it’s still funny. LOL
That is so funny! I went from Mellisa Tyler to Mellisa Swigart and it sounds like Swaggart so I get teased alot about being related to the preacher Jimmy Swaggart.
I always think of that when naming my kids in the first place. who they might end up with. I seriously hate my name. First name only get teased…Eileen. Like I Lean. And always get teased if my last name is Over. If I would have found a guy with ANY last name that worked with that…I’d have run too.
Banana-fana-fo-fennifer… Fi-fy-fo-fennifer… Good call but I’m sure that was just the reason that pushed your relationship over the line.
Yes this does happen. I had a friend who married a guy with the last name as Hooker
they went to dinner and got a phone call and the waiter calls out in the resturarant – Is there a Hooker in the house?
Bwahaha! My laugh of the afternoon! That would have been ummmm not cool.
