When I was a little girl, my mom always had my hair cut really short. Â This annoyed me – even as a child. Â When I became a teen, I always had long hair, and I have continued with longer hair since (with the exception of a few shorter haircuts, just to see if I liked them).
The problem is I don’t often wear my long hair down! Sounds silly, right? Â I don’t like hair in my face, so I end up using a clip most days, to keep the hair from bothering me. Â Does it look great? Probably not. Is it effective? Yes! Â I have experimented with different ways of styling my hair, but always seem to come back to boring and ordinary. I am not very creative when it comes to hair, but recently I have started looking around on various websites to get some ideas. I did this most recently when I was trying to find the perfect hairstyle for the movie event I attended in NYC this weekend.
One site I found really helpful was ghd (good hair day). Â It is full of photos of hairstyles (which is perfect for me – I am a visual person), videos (also very helpful!) as well as tips for styling hair, information about the right hairstyling tools to use for certain styles, and so much more.
I also discovered something really neat about flat irons…you can take a section of hair, use the flat iron in one direction and slide partially down, then flip the flat iron and continue down a little more. Â Then keep repeating. Â Who knew?? Certainly not me – I just assumed that the flat iron was to be used to straighten hair (in one direction). Â In the hairstyle video I watched, the stylist (Lisa Booth) then continued the hairstyle into a loose knot.
I found some really neat products on the ghd website too – these will definitely make the job of styling my hair just a little bit easier!  They have a great assortment of flat irons (ghd have been winners of the InStyle ‘Best Flat Iron’ Beauty Buy award for nine years running!), curling irons, and salon hair dryers (including the ghd air). Now this beauty sounds like my kind of blow dryer! The ghd air blow dryer has a salon strength motor for quicker drying, it is ergonomically correct (which is important for me, since my hair is so long and takes awhile to dry!), and it has advanced Ionic Technology for less frizz and a silkier finish.
I have actually spent the better part of the morning watching videos on the ghd site. There are SO many helpful videos for hairstyles I never even knew existed. Regardless of your hair type or length, I think you will definitely learn something at ghd!

I think you’ve seen me in personal several times and my hair is always the same LOL! I don’t know what else to do with it 😉
I’ll have to check out that site.
Oh going to have to check out that site as yea I am pretty clueless with hair too.
Even though I have the parts to be a girl, you’d never know I was one by my total lack of girlishness! My hair being one of those lacking things o.O
I always end up asking my sister (who’s quite the hair master) to do it for me if I need it done for a special event or occasion.
I may just have to venture out of my ponytail comfort zone and attempt to try some new things 🙂
wow very helpful post! I too was led to believe as a little girl that short hair was great! although it was only great for mommy. so I too have had long hair most of my life! I did learn how to do the fishtail braid but only have done it to my daughter’s hair! Thanks for all the useful info for that website & I will be checking it out! I love to try new products so I have to find those new hair products!
