Trying To Avoid Coffee? 3 Energy-Boosters With Similar Effects

It’s true that you can’t really do anything without energy. Those of us waking up in the colder mornings will soon attest to that fact. We all want an extra hour in bed (at least) each morning, and perhaps you think the siesta idea Spain is so well known for is wise. However, after that first cup of coffee that helps us rocket-fuel into the start of our day, most of us feel that the morning is at least tolerable.

For many reasons, you may want to limit your coffee intake. That may also mean limiting your caffeine intake too, such as by restricting any caffeine-based teas like matcha. Don’t worry, we’re not going to advise you stand up and start doing jumping jacks every time you feel tired, but you may wonder what alternative solutions are out there for you, and if any of them can truly help. If you’re going through the caffeine withdrawal period (caffeine is actually physically addictive), then any alternatives might seem a little tepid.

Regardless, in this post, we’ll discuss a few energy boosters with similar effects, but not tie you to anything silly:

Natural Energy From Real Food

Your body runs on fuel (don’t worry, mine does too), and so it naturally follows that the quality of that fuel is going to very much affect how steady your energy feels throughout the day. Complex carbs like oatmeal or sweet potatoes are great, as they give you sustained energy that doesn’t crash like sugary snacks do, and adding some protein helps keep your blood sugar from roller coaster dips that leave you feeling worse than before.

Fresh fruits can work great because they provide natural sugars your body can use right away, not to mention they come with vitamins that help convert food into energy more efficiently so you don’t feel like you’re dragging yourself through the afternoon. Keep a banana in your pack for the right time and you might be surprised how much it helps.

If You Have Time, Move

Getting your blood moving can sometimes be the trick if you get lethargic in the afternoons. After lunch, taking a quick walk around the area could help you before you return to work, or doing some light stretching right at your desk is good enough if you’re stuck inside all day.

Your body gets stiff and tired from sitting in the same position for hours, so such movement should help shake off a foggy feeling more easily than staring at your computer screen hoping energy will magically appear. Dancing to a few songs in your living room works too, and nobody has to see you doing it, so you can be as ridiculous as you want while getting your circulation going again.

Herbal Options That Might Help

Certain plants have been helping people stay alert and focused for way longer than energy drinks have been around, and plenty of people swear by them for maintaining energy throughout their day if they prefer to avoid the crashes that come with too much caffeine. Green tea gives you a gentler boost that won’t make you jittery like coffee sometimes does, while herbs like ginseng might help your body handle stress and fatigue more effectively over time. Medical sativa products are gaining popularity for people looking for natural wellness support, though you’ll want to research what’s legal and makes sense for your particular situation before trying anything new in your routine.

With this advice, we hope you can more easily gain energy even if you’re trying to avoid coffee. It’s a totally understandable goal.
