Unlikely Friendships Book Review

You may or may not know this about me:  I am a huge animal lover.  If you ask my husband or kids, they have story after story of how I will take in pretty much any creature.  I am touched by special animal stories as well.  I have just found the most heartwarming book about animals and their relationships.

Unlikely Friendships by Jennifer S. Holland (Workman Publishing) is a wonderful book with 47 stories from the Animal Kingdom.  Though I haven’t had a chance to read all of the stories yet, I have read a few, and I found myself smiling with each story 🙂

Everybody says that opposites attract, but why? The bond between friends can happen in an instant, and you won’t believe it until you see it. With brilliant full-color photographs, UNLIKELY FRIENDSHIPS is the best book to give your best friend, or any animal lover.

One story I read was about a tabby cat named Libby, who because the “seeing eye cat” for the family’s lab, Cashew.  it is such a sweet story how the cat led the dog around and helped him find his way.  He always let Cashew know he was there.  So very sweet!

The photos in Unlikely Friendships are beautiful!  This would make a wonderful gift, or even just a book that would be fun to have at home to read through sporadically.  The stories are short but touching, and photos accompany each story.

Other stories in the book include a Rhodesian Ridgeback who mothered a tiny potbellied pig, the owlet and the greyhound, the squirrel monkey and a capybara, and a leopard and a cow.  These stories are only a small example of the stories included in the book.

Another of my favorite stories is about an Asiatic Black Bear at a zoo in Berlin.  One day a black cat appeared and immediately befriended the bear.  They share meals, bask in the sun together and have been buddies for over 10 years.  How funny is that?

Unlikely Friendships is a book that will make any animal lover happy. If you need a smile, this is the book to accomplish that too.
