I am all about creative writing, imaginative thinking, and goofy stories. Both my kiddo’s bookshelves are filled with outlandish and funny stories, tales of imagination, and lots and lots of interesting information. When I heard about If an Armadillo Went to a Restaurant, written by Ellen Fischer and illustrated by Laura Wood, I knew it was a book that would be right up our alley.

The goofy combinations in If an Armadillo Went to a Restaurant, along with the beautiful and detailed pictures, engaged my kiddos throughout the book. My seven year old liked laughing, and sometimes gagging, at the different things animals eat. Worms and bugs at a restaurant? Gross! The baby also enjoyed looking at the colorful pictures of the different animals and food.

The book finishes with an open ended question of what would your child order at a restaurant. From there you and your child can explore their favorite foods, what food they would like to try, and things they may not care for. I like to continue being silly with my kiddos and see what kind of wacky, imaginary creations we can think up.
