#CriscoKnowsPie
*I am partnering with Crisco in celebration of Pi Day. Although I will be compensated, all opinions are my own.
Pi Day is tomorrow (3/14), and to celebrate, I made a pie! Actually, I was asked by Crisco to bake a pie and celebrate. I have to say that the hashtag #CriscoKnowsPie is absolutely perfect. They really do know pie dough – and so do I, thanks to my mom who was the best baker in the world. She taught me from an early age how to bake, and her standard pie dough called for Crisco. I remember her stressing each and every time that I helped her, that the Crisco has to be really cold before incorporating it. I have never forgotten her advice, and I have the best memories of baking with her as a little girl (all the way up until I became an adult!). The Crumble Topped Peach Pie that I created is very similar to a peach pie she used to make.
I was asked to participate in the Crisco #PiDay project, and I gladly said yes. I have always baked with Crisco when making goodies, so it just seemed like a genuine fit for me.

The Classic Crisco Pie Dough is the same recipe my mom always used:
Classic Crisco Pie Dough:
1 1/3 cups Pillsbury BEST™ All Purpose Flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 stick well-chilled Crisco® Baking Sticks All-Vegetable Shortening
OR 1/2 cup Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening
3 to 6 tablespoons ice cold water
Filling:
2 1/2 cups (2 to 3 large) peeled, sliced fresh or frozen peaches
3/4 cup granulated sugar, plus additional for topping
1/4 cup quick-cooking tapioca
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon almond extract (I used vanilla)
1/4 cup Pillsbury BEST™ All Purpose Flour
Crumble mixture:
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup chopped almonds (I used pecans)
3 tablespoons butter, melted
I started by mixing the ingredients for my dough – super easy. My mom showed me how to make “pebbles” before adding the water.

Oh my…it turned out beautifully. It tasted even better! I present to you my Crumble Topped Peach Pie made with Crisco Sticks!

Crisco hasn’t failed me yet – my pie crust always turns out perfect – flaky and tasty. I don’t ever see myself using any other kind of shortening for my pie crusts!
Do you like to bake as much as I do? Is Crisco your go-to ingredient when you make pie dough? Follow along with the fun with #CriscoKnowsPie and #PiDay! Oh, and make sure you visit the Crisco Facebook page for a special Pi Day coupon for Crisco Baking Sticks!
