I love learning about fun new places in my area, but sometimes it can be tricky getting honest opinions from review sites. I would much rather learn about places and services from friends I know and trust. I was asked to try a fun new app* and share my experience with you.

GemShare is an app that allows you to either create or join a local group (or a group of interest), where you can share your favorite places, services, etc., with those in your group. You can also request a gem, if you have a question. For instance, I am in need of a person to repair our washing machine (it is making a horrible noise!), and I posted my question for my local friends to answer.

Although I don’t have any responses yet, I’m sure answers will be posted as more local friends join my group, and maybe even post their own gems. I also look forward to helping others who ask questions. Since I have lived in the SF Bay Area my whole life, I am familiar with all sorts of local things!
There are several categories to choose from on GemShare, which is extremely helpful when you need to know about a certain service or place:

I am also having fun posting my favorite “gems” too! I added a few more after the ones below, and I have SO many more to add. From restaurants, to doctors (heaven knows that I have seen plenty of doctors!), venues, attractions, stores, beauty services and everything in between – I have a lot to say! It is kind of hard to stop adding gems once you start, but it is super fun!

I was really excited to read about Bette’s Diner in Berkeley. I remember hearing about it years ago, but honestly, I had forgotten about it. Now that it is fresh in my mind, thanks to someone posting this gem, I have this on my list of “places to go”. Maybe my daughter and I will go and grab lunch there this summer, and then maybe do some shopping. How fun would that be?

If you are local to me, I hope that you will join the Eighty MPH Mom group on GemShare. We can share ideas and help each other out. If you have children, this is a great way to fun new things to do with them, that you might have not known about otherwise.
I hope those of you that aren’t local to me will also check out GemShare and join some groups that interest you. There is something for everyone!
