It seems like yesterday when I went to the hospital to have my second child. I remember checking in on the maternity floor and the lady at the counter asking what I was there for. Ummmm hello? Do you not see this basketball I swallowed? I’m about to have a baby!
I will never forget hearing the words, “It’s a girl” when she was finally born. I did not want to know the gender prior to “its” arrival. Okay I am totally lying here – I really, really wanted to know, but they just couldn’t tell from the ultrasound. My brother had two boys, and I had a son already, so this was especially exciting news. Both grandmas craved a little girl to bake with and have tea parties with.
Though there were many sleepless years nights, I was smitten with this child of mine. I watched her grow from baby to toddler to elementary school age. I have so many great memories of my little “Jelly Bean”, {which was then shortened to “Bean”} – a name she told us to stop calling her just as soon as she could talk. Us girls had fun baking, dressing up for Halloween, laughing, and just being buddies.

Now the beautiful daughter I see is almost an adult. She will start high school next week. Am I ready for that? I’m not quite sure, but I know she will handle anything that life throws her way {and her mama has got her back!}. She is fourteen years old today, and I am just as proud as I can be. She is my friend – we talk about everything. We laugh hysterically at our little inside jokes. We love each other immensely. I envision us always having this type of relationship, just as my mom and I did.

So on this day, to my sweet little girl, I want to wish you the happiest of birthdays. I wish you the best of luck starting high school. You will be fabulous – I just know it.

Happy Birthday to your precious girl!
What a doll! I love the last picture. Makes me want to move near some mountains.
Oh I am typing through tears (the boys are crying too but I think it is for a different reason but who can be sure?).
My favorite picture is her with daddy in his uniform – priceless.
And I know that it is all about Liz but that picture of your son with his arms closed – hysterical.
Happy Birthday Liz! You are a lucky girl to have such a wonderful mommy.
Happy Birthday times fourteen,
you’ll be happening in the High School scene.
I wanted to type Jelly Bean,
but that’s unfair and a little mean,
because you’re now a beautiful young lady in comfy blue jeans.
God Bless you always.
Happy belated Birthday!! What a sweet girl, ahem, lady you have! I absolutely love that first picture. So precious!
Give that girl a hug for me!
Oh, Jen, what a beautiful post… you brought tears to my eyes.
What a special relationship you two have and I know that it will last forever.
I love all those photos (you look gorgeous in the first photo) and I also love the one of her and her daddy.
