Power Up & Read with Energizer Bunny and Scholastic

The month of July has provided plenty of reading opportunities to Power Up & Read with the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge powered by Energizer!

All month we’ve had weekly challenges to complete – it’s been great fun!  We received an Energizer Bunny to accompany us on our weekly #SummerReading challenges.  The first week, we were challenged to read outside and after four straight days, we finally had the chance to catch some rays and read!

Summer Reading
Paige took time to read out in the backyard on a towel, at the lake on the dock and on the front porch.  She will read every opportunity she can!

Week two, Paige was challenged to read at bedtime.  This week, she unwrapped a fun Magic School Bus Electricity Kit that provided a number of different experiments all dealing with electricity.  It was fun and educational!

Bedtime Reading
She followed up our experiments by reading The Magic School Bus and the Electric Field Trip, of course with the Energizer Bunny at her side!

Week three we were challenged to read on the go…and go we did!  We left for Kentucky and had a great tote to fill full of books.  It’s a 15 hour drive, after all.

On The Go Reading
July has been packed full of fun summer reading!  It’s not too late to join the , which is its 9th year of keeping kids reading.  Reading is so important, even during the summer months.  As a free, online program this year’s challenge, Power Up & Read not only promotes STEM, but families can connect to discover the power and joy of reading by unlocking 12 original short stories by well known and loved authors.  The Summer Reading Challenge runs through September 4, 2015.

In order to log as many minutes as possible, the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge announces a #MondayMinutesGoal, the number of minutes for kids to read together in one week.  Can you meet the challenge?  If you need help, I’ve found writing down our weekly goal is key.  We post it on the fridge for reference.  I also like to read (lead) by example.  I read as much as I can!  If your child is social, post on social media using #MondayMinutesGoal and #SummerReading.  Check out all of the available for you!
