Soda? Juices? Flavored water? Yes, yes and yes. These are drinks that you can find in our cabinet or refrigerator at any given time. We all have our favorites, so we are always well stocked! I find that during the hot summer months especially, our drink supply is extra plentiful, which leads me to frustration. Why frustration? Well, it limits my much-needed space in both my refrigerator and the cabinets. Oh, and let’s not forget the expense of all of these beverages!
I was super excited when the nice folks at Sodastream offered to send me a machine to review! I have been eyeing these for several years now, and am thrilled to finally have one of my own. If you are not familiar with SodaStream, just wait until I show you what it is all about.
For review, I received a SodaStream Genesis as well as a huge variety of flavors. They have over 60 varieties! So if anyone thinks the SodaStream is just for soda lovers, they are very, very wrong.
Setting up our SodaStream was very easy. The instructions were easy to follow (which is a good thing for me, as I am easily frustrated), and we had it up and running in no time. It was comforting to know that if I did have any problems or questions, there is a wealth of information to be found on the SodaStream website.
Now my daughter loves her flavored sparkling waters quite a bit. She buys the 1-liter bottles (store brand) mostly, and goes through a lot of them. She was delighted when she discovered that the with the SodaStream she can make her very own flavored sparkling water using the MyWater Flavor Essences! Not only are these all-natural and unsweetened, they are 100% vegan too!
These cute little bottles shown below were included with my review items, and after my daughter adds carbonation to her SodaStream reusable carbonating bottle, she just adds a little flavoring and voila! She can drink as much as she wants and it costs me very little.
I love soda and juices, so naturally I was very pleased to see brands such as Hawaiian Punch, Crystal Light and Country Time included in the assortment of SodaStream flavors!
But back to the soda! Honestly, I was a little skeptical, wondering if they soda flavors would taste like “real” soda. I needn’t have worried as I really couldn’t tell the difference. They all taste rich and very much like the real thing. From root beer and cola, to lemon-lime flavors, there is certainly a flavor to please just about everyone. Of course there are also diet options with these varieties too.
Ahhh – very refreshing! I had a friend over so we could play with my new SodaStream and she was really impressed. We spent the afternoon sampling different flavors, and we were so happy with the flavors of each one. The root beer was really good – rich and bold, just as root beer should be. The Crystal Light Pink Lemonade was tart without being overly so. I will definitely be enjoying this flavor especially over the years, and during the hot weather. Oh who am I kidding, I will enjoy it daily, mostly likely!
Save money with SodaStream
I am over the moon excited with how much money my family is saving, since we started using our SodaStream. Our grocery bills have been cut drastically since we used to buy big bottles of juice, cases of soda and individual 1 and 2 liter bottles of both soda and flavored water. With so many flavors to choose from, it is highly unlikely that we will ever get bored. The nice thing too is that you can order additional 1-liter carbonating bottles so that every family member has their own, or you might decide to share and mix & match. When you have a craving for something, it is super easy to just make a bottle of whatever you want!
Eco-Friendly
Speaking of carbonating bottles, I love that the whole SodaStream system is eco-friendly. Since the bottles are reusable (eventually they should be replaced). This means that there are less plastic bottles manufactured, which leads to less waste being created. In fact, more than 80% of plastic bottles end up in our landfills, as folks do not recycle them (according to the US Recycling Institute). That is a REALLY scary figure. I feel good knowing that with SodaStream’s help, my family is doing its part to help our environment.
SodaStream is an “Active Green” product, meaning that consumers are actively reducing their CO2 footprint every time they make soda or sparkling water at home instead of buying it from the store. The more the system is used on a daily basis, the more CO2 footprint the user actively saves. (This differs from “Passive Green” products, which use green-friendly production processes, but their products are not inherently helping the consumers save on their daily footprint).
When your SodaStream Carbonator is empty, you can refill them at participating SodaStream C02 Exchange stores such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Crate & Barrel, Staples, Best Buy and many more. The retailer will sell you a full carbonator for the price of the gas contents only (make sure you check your local store for availability).
