In our neck of the woods, it’s pretty uncommon for kids to attend a summer camp. According to a recent survey conducted by premier specialty sporting goods retailer Sport Chalet, 58 % of the respondents said that their children do not attend summer camp when school lets out. So I guess I’m not alone! However, it means that it’s completely up to me to provide activities to keep my kiddos active and engaged. I have done a lot of research and found a lot of great ideas.

Of course, partnering with Sport Chalet was a great idea! In order to get kiddos to turn off the TV and electronics, Sport Chalet has a great selection of gear for summer.
Sport Chalet was kind enough to send over the Intex Kid’s Sun Shade Pool – and it’s been so much fun for Paige! In fact, according the survey, 56% of Americans said that their children prefer spending time in the water to other summer activities. That’s certainly true about Paige. She’s a little fish!

Geared for children 3 and up, I like it because it’s just enough water – it holds 74 gallons – so Paige can splash around and her favorite, “just kick back…it’s been a rough day”. I can’t make this stuff up! Additionally, the pool offers a sun shade but as we found, after an afternoon in the sun the plastic doesn’t want to stay up. Next time, we’ll keep the shade in the garage until she’s ready to hop on in. The sun shade attaches with Velcro, so it’s super easy to and remove. Just in case, a repair kit comes with the pool. At $39.99, it’s a steal considering all of the fun it’s provided!

In addition to the Intex Kid’s Sun Shade Pool, Sport Chalet offers a host of water games and gear for kids to enjoy under adult supervision.

For example, the Slip N Slide Double Wave Rider, which features dual lanes and sprays of water for an easy way to glide into summer fun. How about cooling off with an extreme water fight? With the Stream Machine Water Launcher, which shoots water up to 70 feet, it’s a great way to keep cool!

If water recreation isn’t preferred,
Sport Chalet has products in the team sports line – basketball, soccor, kickball or set up a lawn game.

Archery is quite popular – exercise accuracy and precision with the safe-to-use Bear Archery Toy Crossbow. Aim for the target and see who can get the most points in a competitive, more sophisticated game of darts. Teatherball is another favorite. I used to spend my recess waiting in line for my turn. With the Park & Sun Sports Deluxe Tetherball Set you can bring playground fun to any home. With an easy set-up, solid steel pole and woven tether, the kids will play tetherball for hours.
