Skin care is very important to me {as I am sure it is to all of us}, so I was ecstatic when I was asked to be a Eucerin Skin First Ambassador, along with some amazing women. The idea behind the Eucerin Skin First network is to help and educate others about skin care.  I will also be bringing you healthy skin tips, and important information during the year,  thanks to Eucerin.  There will be goodies along the way for you too!

Summer is a fun time of year when many families spend a majority of their time outdoors.  There are barbecues, days in the park, splashing in the pool or lake, camping and so many other fun things to do.  Many times while we are so busy having the time of our lives, we forget that the sun is beating down on us, damaging our skin.  It is so easy to forget to apply or reapply sunscreen, but it is so very important, as  UVB rays are the main cause of sunburns, DNA damage and skin cancer.  Sunscreen is vital in protecting our skin and it should always be applied when outside, especially during the hours of 10AM – 4PM when the sun’s rays are the most severe.  Sometimes on cooler days, it is especially easy to forget to put on the sunscreen before heading out, but the truth is that sunburn/skin damage can happen even when there are clouds in the sky.

Your skin is a mirror of your internal health. Getting enough sleep, exercising regularly and eating a balanced, healthful diet will help ensure your skin looks and feels its best. A good daily skin care regimen, including gentle cleansing, moisturizing and (most importantly) protecting skin from the sun, is essential… not just for keeping skin looking good, but for preventing things like premature skin aging and skin cancer.

Did you know that our skin is our first line of defense against infections, germs and pollutants or that more than half of our lifetime UV exposure occurs before we’re 20?  Most women are not aware of those facts, and Eucerin is encouraging women to pledge to putting their skin first.  I think this is a wonderful campaign and I am hoping I can get help get the word out.  Us women like to talk right?  Make sure you tell your friends and relatives {even the men!} about the danger of  skin cancer and skin damage, and of course please encourage them to take the Skin First Pledge!  When you make the pledge to put your skin first, you will not only help yourself, but you will be helping Healthy Women.  Eucerin will make a charitable donation to Healthy Women for each pledge that is made.

Personally, I use sunscreen every day.  The thought of facial wrinkles is just not appealing to me, and I have made sunscreen part of my makeup routine.  If I am looking for a healthy glow, I use self-tanner.  Being tan is just not as important to me as healthy skin {and no wrinkles!}.  I just took the pledge for healthy skin and I hope you will too.
