24 Hours of Reality – The Climate Reality Project
I tuned in to a very informative webchat a couple of days ago, and learned so much about our environment and climate change. The webchat focused on some very scary issues happening now, and how we can help to make a change. Did you know that Climate change is now not only impacting systems, but its also impacting individual weather events. I have noticed such drastic changes in my area the past few years and I even asked the host of the webchat about it. Her answer:
When you look at over the centuries what has happened with our climate, there has been an enormous shift. But if you think about the changes that are happening now, we’re seeing those changes at a much more dramatic and fast rate.
These changes that you’re talking about aren’t just linked to climate change, they are
a result of climate change. The climate shift has affected the weather systems. We can
alter that if we stop dumping 90 million tons of carbon pollution in the atmosphere each
year.
The time to do something is now. It is only going to get worse, folks!
The Climate Reality Project, which is an organization founded by Al Gore will be launching their 24 Hours of Reality global initiative Tuesday, October 22nd (tomorrow!). This is a really special and important event – it is a 24-hour live broadcast will offer audiences the chance to join in the conversation to learn how carbon pollution is affecting families around the world. The focus this year on 24 Hours of Reality is “Cost of Carbon” in the environment in regions around the world.
This will be the largest conversation about the cost of carbon pollution. The global, live-streamed multi-media event will broadcast live from Los Angeles beginning at 11 a.m. PDT on October 22nd through October 23rd.
They will be traveling six continents and talking about the effects each one is facing. You can see the hourly schedule here.
During the broadcast, you will learn more about the Cost of Carbon Tool, which is so handy to see what issues you might be facing in your own area.
Former Vice President Al Gore, as well as other from the organization, will be on hand during the Twitter party and they will be tweeting with us! Please follow @ClimateReality to help us bring attention to the cause. We will also be sharing ways that we can spread the word on how to cut back on carbon pollution in our own lives, which will help make a difference. This is so, so very important and I hope you will join in!
