For many moms, new year resolutions can be quite difficult because there are too many things demanding attention. From the kids, to work, to the spouse, all these demands and activities can cause the average woman to forget herself and put her needs last.
Yet, if there’s one thing that’s true, it’s that you can only give what you have. And a woman who is pulled in many directions or stretched thin can break down from all the pressure and demands from everyone. This is why we’re encouraging you this year to take your health and needs very seriously, and reclaim your well-being.
Pay Attention to What You Eat
When you’re juggling so many things in the home, it can often feel like you’re driving at 100 mph. The result? You forget to eat well. And when you do eat, it’s not unusual to just grab and eat whatever is in sight (could be junk), and wash it down with whatever drink is available –possibly soda.
After that, you may not eat again until after another 12 hours. This year, you have to do better when it comes to your food. You want to be around for your kids in good health, don’t you? So, pay better attention to your food. Start eating healthy.
If you don’t have the time to sit down and eat fruits and vegetables, blend them into a smoothie and just chug ‘em. Always have nuts and seeds around for snacking.
Manage Your Schedule
This is even more important if you’re a work-from-home mom. The good news is schools are in session again. So, if your kids are of school age, you can drop them off in the morning and plan for your day.
But if they’re being homeschooled, then you need a solid schedule to handle both the kids and work. While life does happen, the reality is it’s easier to manage any emergencies if there’s a schedule in place. If the kids know that they have to be up and ready to go by 7 am because mommy has to go to work, it makes things much easier.
Get Enough Sleep
If there’s one thing you shouldn’t scrimp on, it’s your sleep. Do everything you can to get enough sleep at night –7 to 9 hours. If you’re not sleeping well, you need to find out why, so that you can avoid developing one or more of the comorbidities associated with insomnia.
And the internet is not necessarily the best place to find the right information. If you’ve ever done a search online for the possible causes of a health issue, odds are you came out even more confused than when you started the search. Listen, don’t believe everything you read on the internet.
While some of the information is solid, many are unreliable at best. For instance, it’s easy to assume that you have sleep apnea because you’re obese or overweight. Yet, that’s just one of the many sleep apnea myths out there. This is why it’s always better to always speak with a specialist and get an accurate diagnosis.
