6 Tips for Decorating Your Home Office Space

Whether you work from home full-time or you bring your work to do in the comfort of your own home, having a dedicated space for your thinking is vital for success. If you don’t have a space, then you risk getting distracted by other people, things, and even noise in the background. So finding a location in your house to dedicate strictly to work is helpful. But how exactly should your office look? Here are six tips for decorating your home office space.

decorating your home office space

1. Choose Function Over Form

Many people design their home office spaces with the idea that it has to look perfect and organized to any outside viewer. But this can be problematic, as it doesn’t necessarily make the space the easiest to use. Instead of going for a perfectly clean or classy look, think about how you’re going to use the space every day. Place the desk in the most productive part of the room, and choose furniture whose function is reliable instead of flimsy or difficult-to-use pieces. You’ll thank yourself in the long run.

2. Choose a Color Scheme

The next thing you’ll want to consider is the overall color scheme of your home office space. When it comes to decorating an office, there are various benefits to having different colors, so it ultimately depends on how you personally like to work. You can choose darker colors while allowing a large amount of light through the windows to create a bolder and darker look.

As many people usually steer clear of darker colors, especially on the walls, you’ll be making a statement with this renovation. Or you can go a lighter route and create a lighter and breezy feel throughout the room. Having a lighter room is beneficial if you’re trying to read a lot or don’t require much screen time in your office. Either way, make sure that the colors you place in the office space are beneficial for your work ethic and they go together nicely.

3. Consider the Lighting

You should make sure that your office space has an adequate amount of lighting to ensure that you’re always able to work no matter the time of day. You should have a lamp directly on or near your desk to make it easier to see up close. And you should have at least one other lamp or lighting source somewhere else in the room to light up the majority of the office space.

Maybe even consider the windows and natural lighting in the room, as you can place your desk in front of the window for a view. Make sure you have curtains or blinds to adjust the amount of light that enters the room.

4. Put Certain Accessories on Your Desk

You’ll want to make sure you have all of the necessary accessories on your desk that you use often. Many people like to either clutter their desk with unneeded decorations and leave limited space, and other people like to have a completely clear desk that makes it harder to find supplies when needed.

To avoid this, make sure you only keep the equipment that you use for work purposes on the outside corners of your desk, like pens, notebooks, or customized notepads. This creates a functional and productive space.

5. Have Adequate Storage

Given that a home office space requires more organization than other parts of the house, you’ll want to make sure you keep enough storage space in there for your work components. Whether that means installing shelves on the walls or buying storage containers for the closet, make sure you have enough space to keep everything organized.

6. Comfortable Chair and Desk

Lastly, it’s important that you have a comfortable desk and chair to work at. You don’t want to be distracted by constantly having to move your chair or adjust the desk, so make sure you have a chair with plenty of cushioning for comfort. And make sure you have a desk that’s tall enough for legroom and maybe even storage space beneath.

Closing Thoughts

Overall, finding a space in your home dedicated to work can be a challenging task, especially when you have to worry about decorating and keeping all of the right supplies together. Make sure that your office space is representative of you as a person and that it gives off vibes or productivity. Ensure there’s enough light in the room and that it’s overall a comfortable place for you to be. Follow each of these tips and get to work in your home office space.
