As the mother of little boys, my life has become full of all things gross and messy. From making mud pies and digging for bugs to burping contests and the fact that poo is hilarious, my once “girly” life has gone out the window. As crazy as it may seem, I’ve fully embraced this new surrounded by guys lifestyle of mine and have learned to go with the flow. In doing so, that sometimes means tweaking our in-home teaching practices. Take the alphabet for example; “A” is not for “apple.” In our house, “A” can be for anything from “angry apes” and “aliens” to “accidents” and “ants.” We’ve been through our fair share of learning materials for the boys but flashcards depicting unicorns, princesses, and fancy queens don’t quite cut it. Now as faux pas as poop, farts, and boogers might be – it’s all boy! And that is something that is certainly right up my alley.
He’s All Boy is an adorable little company that is – wait for it – dedicated to all things boy! Created by a former elementary school teacher and, of course, a mom to an inquisitive little boy, Susan Levy developed a fun way for her own son to learn his ABCs. As any mother of sons can attest to, it is not secret that little boys love potty words and all things silly and gross. Many little boys do not find standardized learning enjoyable and would much rather take off running and playing, my own included. Practicing the alphabet is not nearly as much fun as classic little boy play. On a mission to change that, Susan merged the alphabet with the cliché little boy love of all things nasty. He’s All Boy offers made-in-the-US flashcards, a placemat, and even a matching game for your “all boy” little guys.
I recently had the opportunity to try out a couple of their products and I’m kicking myself for not creating these on my own. The He’s All Boy Alpha Cards have seriously taken a giant chapter straight out of my own living room and transformed it into a fun, new learning experience. These flashcards are definitely not your average alphabet cards. These are amazingly gross, hilariously funny, and certainly “all boy.” Every single card is completely and utterly designed specifically for little boys and my own little dudes could not be more entertained by them. I absolutely love the fact that someone actually had the smarts (and the nerve) to make these! It’s sheer genius!
He’s All Boy sent my own little guys, both, the Alpha Cards and the Alpha Cards: Matching Game. With our oldest having almost perfected the alphabet and our youngest still in the beginning stages of learning it, these products proved to be the perfect way to meet both of their needs. Our big guy doesn’t want to sit down for “baby games” nor does our little one quite yet grasp the complexity of those geared towards the older age groups. Typically, if I pulled out any sort of flashcard “game” the kids would, instead, opt out for a game of racing cars or wrestling. I was a bit apprehensive when it came time to review a set of flashcards but the second I opened the package, that all changed.
Our house quickly filled with loud, incessant laughter, crazy squeals, ginormous grins from ear to ear, and an absolutely amazingly, fun environment for none other than good ol’ learning! Who would’ve thought? Farts are bad? No! They are a wondrous learning tool!
We were (I kid you not) almost in tears from laughing so hard – Daddy included! And better yet, our youngest is finally getting the hang of each letter’s sound now! Sure, he knew his ABCs but that was enough for him… until now! He loves these cards! He wants to learn more and he wants to play over and over again. That’s where the Alpha Cards Matching Game comes in. In addition to teaching my boys this crazily silly version of the alphabet, the matching game helps them perfect their memorization skills. Prior to having tried out the He’s All Boy gear, a simple kids’ memory game was boring. Now, it has become an exciting hunt to be the first to find the “Booger Bear” or the “Naked Ninja” pair.
At the end of the day, we truly cannot get enough of our snazzy new He’s All Boy products. I am beyond thrilled with the fact that my boys are furthering their love of learning with the Alpha Cards and Alpha Cards: Matching Game. I’m still a bit flabbergasted by the fact that opening their eyes to the silly, fun world of learning was right in front of my own eyes the entire time and I just didn’t take notice. Normally, we parents shun the potty behavior and make up goofy “nicer” sounding words for things like farting. But, heck, if finding farts funny helps a child get a better grasp on the alphabet, proper enunciation, and grammar, is it really all that bad? Boys will be boys and thanks to these great products from He’s All Boy, we are reminded of that. Don’t discourage it. Utilize it and embrace it. You may just be surprised with the result.
