I am home with my girls.  The television is turned to one of their favorite shows.  There are toys out all over the house – doll clothes in a pile on the bedroom floor, puzzle pieces spread out on the table, books pulled off the shelf, building blocks dumped out of their bucket, dress-up clothes pulled out of the closet.  Yet despite all of this, my girls come up to me with those two dreaded words: “I’m bored.”
Does this sound familiar to you?  It seems to be a regular occurrence in our house.  I am sure it will become even worse once the school year ends and the girls are home with their dad all day long.  That is why I am always on the lookout for new toys and games for my girls to help them beat the boredom.
MindWare makes “Brainy Toys”  that are both entertaining and educational for children and adults.  The wide range of MindWare products include games, puzzles, activities for early learning, arts and crafts , brainteasers, science and STEM projects, building sets, books, active play, and more!  We received two new MindWare products to try out – Pattern Play Revolution and Paint Your Own Porcelain: Flower Pots.
Pattern Play Revolution comes with five double-sided nesting rings and a round board.  Each side of the rings has a design made of eight colors.  There are also fifteen double-sided cards showing a total of thirty different patterns.  You choose a pattern and try to replicate it by placing the nesting rings on the board and aligning them in the correct pattern.

My oldest daughter had a lot of fun with Pattern Play Revolution. Â I liked how it really got her thinking – she had to find the correct side of a ring and line it up with the other rings in the correct spot to match the colored pattern. Â My youngest daughter was not quite old enough to understand and follow the patterns, but both girls enjoyed just putting the rings on the board in their own pattern, which I think is great for promoting creativity. Â I also liked how the nesting rings and round board are made of solid wood so they will not get damaged or broken easily. Â And when my daughter was done playing, all of the pieces fit nicely in the box for easy storage. Â I foresee a lot of Pattern Play Revolution in our future!

I was really excited to tryÂ
Paint Your Own Porcelain: Flower Pots with my oldest daughter. Â This set comes with three small white porcelain flower pots, a porcelain tray, twelve brightly-colored paints, and a paintbrush. Â The possibilities are endless for painting the flower pots and tray. Â You can draw on and then paint a design or just make them as colorful as you want. Â After the paint is dry, you bake the pots and tray in the oven for a half hour, and they are ready for flowers!

My daughter and I enjoyed an afternoon of painting, and I let her paint whatever she wanted. Â On one pot, she used several different colors all over. Â On another pot, she decided to paint it all yellow with a bright pink heart (and pink inside). Â The last pot has grass, sky, and a sun, with a brown backside. Â Finally, we painted the tray purple with orange polka dots, black top, and two red flowers. Â I loved how she could get really creative with her painting, and the best part was when she said “I love painting with you Mommy.” Â I can’t wait until it gets nicer out and we can plant a few flowers in our new pots!
Pattern Play Revolution sells for $34.95 and Paint Your Own Porcelain: Flower Pots sells for $24.95.  You can buy these and more great MindWare products online.  You are sure to find something entertaining for your children that you enjoy as well!
