Hop into Springtime with Kohl’s Cares

April 6, 2016 by Randi 81 Comments

Disclosure review

How many of you have ventured out on a shopping trip with children only to have them ask and plead for various last minute items while standing in the checkout line? Welcome to parenthood, right? With two little ones of my own often in tow, that storyline has played out far too many times. I’ll admit that most of those requests have fallen on deaf ears since those “must-have” items are often anything but necessary. However, there is one particular store where I am almost always known to oblige.  You see, as the mother of little ones whom are still perfecting their reading, books are almost always on my theoretical shopping list. This store doesn’t have the usual array of trinkets and silly little would-be belongings but, instead, they feature a wonderful little collection of reading material and coinciding goodies that aren’t only fun but help to give back through their purchase. Of course, I’m referring to the one and only Kohl’s.

Kohl's Logo

For many, Kohl’s is a staple in our everyday lives but, for those of you that may not be familiar with its greatness please allow me to further explain:

Get everything for you, your family, and your home, all designed to fit your personality and budget. Shop in store, online, on your mobile device, or at a kiosk. Our hassle-free return policy means you can return policy means you can return any item, anytime, for any reason.

My family and I regularly shop at Kohl’s whether it is for clothing items, footwear, home goods, decorative items, gifts, or more. They truly do have a bit of everything for everyone and for every occasion.

Now, in addition to those ever so popular “can I have this” or “can we get that” requests from the littlest shoppers, how many times have you gotten roped into one of those “please donate to such-and-such” promotions when at the register? We’ve all been there and, sure, most of us would like to help out, donate, and do our part but do you remember that theoretical shopping list that I mentioned? What if I told you that you could truly benefit our society and make a charitable donation by simply purchasing items that you had already planned on buying?

That book that you’d like to purchase for your son, the adorable stuffed animal that your daughter will cuddle, a cookbook or an activity book to enjoy as a family, and more help to benefit various children’s health initiatives nationwide. How? With Kohl’s Cares of course!

Kohl's Cares Logo

Not only is Kohl’s a fabulous place to shop but they’ve truly become a leader in the retail industry with their decision to launch their collection of Kohl’s Cares products. Kohl’s Cares, a line that is exclusive to Kohl’s stores, offers shoppers a vast array of items (many of which we’d regularly purchase) that includes a charitable donation within the purchase of each individual item.

Want to make a difference in your community? Kohl’s Cares cause merchandise is a simple way to do just that. Every season there is a cute new collection with items priced at just $5 each, so you can buy new books and soft-toys year round. Even more amazing, 100% of the net profit is donated to support children’s health initiatives!

With all of the profits being donated to more than 160 hospitals across the United States, the Kohl’s Cares collection truly does help to make a difference in the lives of children throughout the country. Proceeds help to fund everything from programs such as hospital run car seat safety checks and bicycle helmet giveaways to dental care and injury prevention programs.

You can view the complete list of Kohl’s Cares hospital partners here. They may very be within your very own community!

Now that we’ve covered how you can help, let’s get to goodies that are up for grabs! This season, children can jump into a world of products that help to encourage a playful curiosity, well-developed literacy, and so much more.

Through the end of this month, the Kohl’s Cares collection features a wonderful line of products showcasing the amazing works of author/illustrator Leo Lionni.

Leo Lionni wrote and illustrated more than forty highly acclaimed children’s books. He received the 1984 American Institute of Graphic Arts Gold Medal and was a four-time Caldecott Honor Winner – for Inch by Inch, Frederick, Swimmy, and Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse.

Luckily for us, one of Lionni’s Caldecott award winning books is among those featured in this season’s Kohl’s Care collection and is available at Kohl’s both online and in stores nationwide.

Kohl's Cares Spring 2016 Collection

The lovely folks over at Kohl’s were kind enough to send me and my family some of this season’s items so that I can then share them with all of you. Take a look at some of the products available through the current Kohl’s Cares collection:

It’s Mine! Book by Leo Lionni

It's Mine! Book by Leo Lionni

With two little ones, the phrase “it’s mine” is often shouted across our house so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce the kids to this particular book. This sweet little story of three frogs helps to explain the importance of sharing to your little ones.

It's Mine! Book by Leo Lionni

Of course, with the importance of sharing come the joys of friendship. To go along with the book, the Kohl’s Cares collection also features an adorable plush toy.

Frog Plush Toy

Your little ones will be hopping with joy when they get this darling frog plush.

Not only does it make for a cuddly new pal but it helps children to better connect with the story and truly grasp the importance of sharing with friends and family.

A Color of His Own Book by Leo Lionni

A Color of His Own Book by Leo Lionni

To coincide with the lesson of sharing found within the It’s Mine! storybook, the life lesson found within A Color of His Own is one of friendship.

A Color of His Own Book by Leo Lionni

Throughout the book, the tale of a chameleon is told and although pigs are pink and elephants are gray, it is the chameleon that has no true color of his own… or so you thought. On his journey to search for his very own color, he discovers that it wasn’t necessarily a color that he sought after but, instead, the feeling of acceptance. That, of course, would come by way of a friend.

When reading a story that helps to shine a light (and color) on the importance of friendship, you need to have a friend that you can then share that story with.

Now, your child can cuddle up with his or her very own chameleon friend!

Frederick Book by Leo Lionni

Frederick Book by Leo Lionni

As previously mentioned, Leo Lionni was a four-time winner of the coveted Caldecott award and this book, Frederick, was one that helped him to secure that honor.

While the other field mice work to gather grain and nuts for winter, Frederick sits on a sunny rock by himself. “I gather sun rays for the cold dark winter days,” he tells them. Another day he gathers “colors,” and then “words.” And when the food runs out, it is Frederick, the dreamer and poet, whose endless store of supplies warms the hearts of his fellow mice, and feeds their spirits during their darkest winter days.

Frederick Book by Leo Lionni

For us, the book serves as a reminder to always be yourself because, no matter the day, time, or issue at hand, there is always a way in which you are able to help – your own special and unique way.

Fish Tote Bag

Fish Tote Bag

To coincide with the Kohl’s Cares collection and their featured Swimmy book by Leo Lionni, this blue and white tote bag decorated adorable little fishies. With my family living along the coast and being frequent visitors to the beach, I am so incredibly excited to be able to properly pack all of our beach-going necessities for a wonderful day spent along (or on!) the water.

Fish Tote Bag

Fish Tote Bag

With so many different versions of tote bags available, I was pleasantly surprised to see that this particular tote easily fits a number of items. Although the weather is a bit too chilly for a beach trip at the moment, I’ve already packed towels, sunscreen, and clothing items for our family of four with ease.

101 Kids Activities That Are the Bestest, Funnest Ever! Book by Rachel Miller and Holly Homer

101 Kids Activities That Are the Bestest, Funnest Ever!

Fellow bloggers Rachel Miller and Holly Homer from KidsActivitiesBlog have put together an amazingly fun collection of activities that you can enjoy with your children.

Never again will you hear the all-too-common call of “I’m bored!” with this kid-pleaser for many ages. Whether your kid is 3, 5, or 12 years old, there are hundreds of fun, educational, and engaging things to do in this book. When they ask to watch television, you’ll have the perfect solution. 101 Kids Activities That Are the Bestest, Funnest Ever! Has time-tested, exciting activities to keep your children laughing and learning for the whole day, every day.

101 Kids Activities That Are the Bestest, Funnest Ever!

101 Kids Activities That Are the Bestest, Funnest Ever!

101 Kids Activities That Are the Bestest, Funnest Ever!

I cannot count the amount of times throughout the day that the kids utter those dreadful “I’m bored” words so this book has been such a fun addition for our family. Since receiving the book as part of the Kohl’s Cares collection, I actually have not heard that statement echo throughout our home. Instead, we simply pull out this book and find a new something fun to do.

Over the past sixteen years, Kohl’s has donated nearly $300 million to partners through Kohl’s Cares helping to fund children’s health and education programs across the country. All of this, of course, happened due to the everyday shopping of loyal Kohl’s customers just like YOU!

When you’re planning your next shopping trip and that theoretical shopping list, please do keep Kohl’s in mind. The proceeds of your purchase of products from the Kohl’s Cares collection today will go directly towards helping others better their tomorrow. That in itself is reason enough to shop Kohl’s.

Buy:
You can purchase the Kohl’s Cares items seen here direct from Kohl’s. All items are available, both, online and in stores nationwide through the end of April. Following this collection, another all new springtime collection will soon be released. Be on the lookout for those goodies as well! Prices for all Kohl’s Cares items are $5.

Several reasons come to mind for the purpose / use each item will serve in it’s purpose. In particular, the frog seems to stand out, the stuffed animal will be given to a person thats been ill for a while and I want them to jump out of bed! Besides each has an activity book that would be beneficial when waiting in the doctors office or test results!

I would love the “It’s Mine” book, because it deals with the concept of sharing, which my children could work on. (I could as well, LOL)
